相傳漢武大帝在公元前139年派遣張騫出使西域,帶回來許多西域的人文、科技等資訊,其中他在大宛國看見了一種汗血寶馬,引起皇帝的興趣;汗血寶馬(AKHAL-TEKE),又稱為大宛馬、天馬,乃中國漢朝時,西域大宛出產的一種良駒,耐疲勞,蹄堅硬,甚至可以「日行千里」; 漢武大帝為了得到汗血寶馬,先後對大宛國發動兩次戰爭,因此拓展了促使東、西文化交流、貿易往來的絲綢之路。
絲路貿易的商品當中,除了絲綢、珠寶、礦物、藥材、農作物之外,還有一項非常重要的品項,即為香草,隨著香草在絲路商業交流中,日漸成為價值不菲的商品,為了找尋更多香草,更直接促使西方世界的航海科技,進而改寫了世界歷史的扉頁。

It is said that Emperor Wu of Han appointed Chang Chien as an envoy to the Western Regions in 139 B.C.. Especially, he saw the Akhal-Teke in Ta-yuan and caused emperor’s interest; the Akhal-Teke, one kind of extraordinary horse bred in Ta-yuan, has very hard hoofs and is durable to run. There was even a legend that the Akhal-Teke could run one thousand kilometers each day. In order to gain the Akhal-Teke, Emperor Wu of Han declared war to Ta-yuan twice. Therefore, it sparked off the development of the Silk Road which facilitated the interactions and transactions through regions from China to the Mediterranean Sea.
Besides silk, jewelry, minerals, medicine and crop, the herb is a momentous merchandise traded in the Silk Road. The gradually rising prices for herbs prompted the advancement of navigation in the western world in order to obtain more herbs. This way it also rewrote the pages of the world history.
The Akhal-Teke is a tough, strong, rare and exceptional horse. Because of its unparalleled value, the Akhal-Teke touched off Emperor Wu of Han’s eagerness to obtain it and fostered the prosperity of the Silk Road for several thousands of years. It singlehandedly triggered the transactions of herbs and culture between the East and the West and therefore rewrote the human history.
