Why Do We Look Better, Yet Still Not Feel Happy?
In my clinic, I sometimes see a certain state.
Some people, after putting in so much effort,
have more refined features, clearer skin, and a healthier glow.
Yet when they look into the mirror,
their eyes don’t seem more at ease.
Sometimes, they even ask:
“Doctor, can I still be better?”
After spending time understanding and reflecting together,
today, I want to say something to those
who have been trying so hard to become more beautiful:
—
In the journey of aesthetics,
there is a stage I call the plateau.
Like being on a high plain during a climb—
you’re already far above,
there may be no peak waiting ahead to conquer,
but the view here
is worth slowing down to take in.
—
We’ve always believed
that becoming more beautiful will bring happiness.
But often,
unhappiness is not because you are not beautiful enough.
It is because—
you may have forgotten how to appreciate yourself.
Today, let’s slow down
and explore what it means to feel beautiful and fulfilled,
through three perspectives:
—
① Body|External change is an entry, not the answer
Aesthetic medicine helps organize your outer state.
This matters, and it is what we strive to do well.
To lift what has loosened,
to brighten what has dimmed,
to bring disorder back into balance.
But all of this
is only the beginning.
If beauty is built on constantly fixing flaws,
you will always feel like it’s not enough.
Because the standard
is always outside of you.
Once you’ve addressed what truly matters to you,
it’s time to move deeper.
—
② Mind|How you see yourself defines how beauty feels
Some people look great, yet keep denying themselves.
Others make small adjustments, and begin to shine.
The difference is never on the face.
It lies in how you see yourself
in this plateau.
When the mind is used to magnifying flaws,
even great progress feels insufficient.
But when you begin to replace judgment
with understanding and appreciation,
you’ll realize—
this kind of evolving beauty is already meaningful.
When your outer beauty has made your strengths visible,
your mind needs to catch up.
That is self-recognition.
At this stage,
slow down.
Take care of your skin simply,
eat well,
enjoy sunlight,
and bring gentle rhythms back into your life.
—
③ Spirit|True beauty is alignment
“Spirit” is not about religion,
but about whether you feel internally at ease.
When your outer appearance, inner state,
and life rhythm are disconnected,
something will always feel off.
Your soul needs to catch up with who you have become.
When these begin to align:
You look like yourself.
You live in a way that suits you.
You no longer need to prove anything.
That kind of beauty
is quiet acceptance and recognition.
And it is powerful.
—
In this season of transition,
let’s revisit what beauty truly means.
Don’t become someone else.
Remove what is unnecessary.
And you may finally see—
the version of you who has tried so hard,
is already wonderful.
—
Just enough is best.
Not doing less,
but not doing more than needed.
Not chasing perfection,
but returning
to the version of yourself that feels just right.
—
To you,
who have worked so hard to become beautiful—
Make sure
you can keep up
with the beauty you already are.
