Taipei Emergency First Response

Taipei Emergency First Response Offering internationally recognized First Aid training to expats and English speakers in Taipei.

Certifying as a surf-lifeguard at the age of 18 in 1993, and working the beaches of some of South Africa's most perilous coastal areas before moving to Taiwan in 2003, my emergency response career currently spans just over 3 decades. I am, in fact, one of the few Emergency First Response® (EFR) instructors with actual, real-life experience to bring to the classroom. I certified as an EFR Instructor in 2010, and as an EFR Instructor Trainer in 2014. Since 2010, as an instructor with Taiwan Dive Buddy, I have conducted numerous EFR courses and certified hundreds of EFR candidates. ABOUT EMERGENCY FIRST RESPONSE®

Focusing on key skills, the course allows you to stay up-to-date and ready to lend aid when needed. Anyone who holds/held an EFR certification with Emergency First Response can do this refresher to get re-certified regardless of where in the world the course was done.

This life saving device can increase a patient’s chance of survival from a cardiac arrest by fifty percent. When workplace or governmental requirements specify this training, the CPR & AED course meets the need.

- Emergency First Response Primary Care (CPR) for Adults with AED Use Course (1-Day Course)

The course focuses on primary care through a combination of knowledge development, skill development, and realistic scenario practice to make sure participants have confidence in their ability to provide care when emergency situations arise. In addition, assessment first aid, bandaging, and splinting are also covered in this course.

- Emergency First Response Care for Children and Infants (CFC) with AED Use (2-Day Course)
Excellent for Middle School and High School Teachers, especially PE Teachers. This is an innovative CPR, AED and First Aid training course that teaches participants how to provide emergency care for injured or ill children (ages 1 to 8) and infants less than 1 year old. Participants learn about the types of medical emergencies that children face, and how they differ from adults. The curriculum also includes the importance of attending to basic emergency situations with children, the emotional aspects of caring for children, secondary care for children, and preventing common injuries and illnesses in children. The course course trains the lay rescuer to follow the same priorities of care used by medical professionals. The student masters the priorities and the procedures of patient care for infants and children in a non-stressful learning environment, which reduces the performance anxieties that interfere with learning and enhances confidence when rendering aid in a real medical emergency. The course includes both primary care (CPR) and secondary care (first aid) skills. The primary care portion of the course prepares the rescuer to help an infant or child with a life-threatening emergency such as choking or cardiac arrest. Secondary care focuses on developing first aid skills and building the rescuer’s confidence to help an infant or child in need when emergency medical services are either delayed or unavailable. The Care for Children course content is based on guidelines from the Pediatric Working Group of ILCOR. INTERNATIONAL STANDARDS

Children have long learned first aid skills and stories of youth making a difference in an emergency are not uncommon. Emergency First Response provider programs recognize this potential and is one reason why EFR programs are performance-based and do not have a minimum age. Participants meeting all performance requirements and objectives are entitled to receive a course completion card regardless of age. Those who lack maturity or unable to meet performance requirements are encouraged to study and work on their skills until they can meet the requirements.
