IELTS 雅思考試由英國文化協會 (British Council) 與英國劍橋大學語言測評考試院 (Cambridge English Language Assessment) 共同經營，雙方自1970年代70 年代後期共同研發考試、並於1980 年推出 IELTS 雅思考試以來便合作至今。在台灣，英國文化協會為舉辦 IELTS 雅思考試的官方考試單位。
