♨️ Hot Spring Insight | Unlocking the Health Secrets of Cold Springs ♨️
As spring blossoms and the hot summer approaches 🔥, did you know that soaking in hot springs not only warms the body but can also help you “cool down and stay healthy”? Dr. Chia-Mien Chen, Director of the Department of Family Medicine at our hospital, has long studied balneotherapy (hot spring therapy). Recently, he was invited by a local enterprise in Suao, Yilan, to step beyond Beitou and introduce the unique charm of Suao’s cold springs to everyone ✨.
Suao Cold Springs 💦 are different from typical sodium bicarbonate springs. They uniquely combine the characteristics of both “warm water” and “cold water” carbonated springs. Warm water supports health promotion and disease prevention, while cold springs offer the most refreshing and soothing option for summer ✔️. Rich in carbon dioxide, the spring water forms fine bubbles—earning it the nickname “Bubble Bath” 🫧. When the concentration is sufficient, it can also promote blood circulation, giving rise to another name: the “Heart Spring” 🫀.
Doctors recommend soaking at 33–34°C for about 10–15 minutes, which may help with mild cardiovascular conditions 🩸. ‼️ However, those with severe hypertension, recent myocardial infarction, aortic or mitral valve stenosis, severe heart failure, or serious cerebrovascular diseases are **not suitable** for this type of therapy 🚿. Additionally, moderate consumption of properly tested, filtered, and sterilized carbonated spring water may help stimulate gastrointestinal movement and relieve constipation.
Furthermore, alternating between cold and hot baths can increase tissue blood flow and oxygen levels, while reducing swelling. However, patients with cardiovascular diseases should remain cautious and prioritize safety ❗️
Hot springs are not just for relaxation—they are part of a healthy and leisurely lifestyle 🌿. This summer, consider visiting Suao and experience the natural healing power of its cold springs ☀️.
