A New Chapter in Interdisciplinary Dialogue: TCVGH Engages in a Smart Healthcare Exchange with Hanoi Law University and Tunghai University

On June 4, Taichung Veterans General Hospital (TCVGH) had the honor of welcoming a delegation of professors from Hanoi Law University in Vietnam and the Department of Law at Tunghai University. The visit facilitated a rich and in-depth interdisciplinary academic exchange. The delegation was received by Vice Superintendent Dr. Yuan-Hua Chou, who offered firsthand insights into the core operational models of the hospital's smart healthcare system and initiated forward-looking discussions on the integration of medical practice and legal frameworks.

The first stop of the visit was TCVGH’s W34 Smart Ward, where the guests observed patient-centered spatial design and the operation of intelligent care systems. The delegation expressed particular interest in the role of nursing robots in supporting clinical workflows. This area showcases the harmonious integration of advanced technology and patient-centric care, with significant potential for application and development.

The tour continued to the fully automated smart laboratory, which features seamless and contactless integration of pre-analytical processes, including patient identification, blood collection, specimen transportation, testing, and cold storage. The lab supports multiple testing modules—including biochemistry, immunology, hematology, coagulation, and HbA1c—substantially enhancing testing efficiency and quality control. It sets a new benchmark in smart medical diagnostics.

Next, the delegation visited the Telemedicine Center, where they explored how TCVGH leverages digital technology to overcome geographical barriers. The center’s capabilities extend to remote and underserved areas, as well as international medical services, enabling real-time consultations, remote image interpretation, and multilingual communication mechanisms. The discussion also covered digital health policies and relevant legal regulations.

At the Advanced Imaging Center, the hospital showcased cutting-edge diagnostic equipment, such as photon-counting CT, high-end computed tomography (CT), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). These technologies are critically important in clinical diagnostics as they deliver high-resolution and efficient imaging services, enhancing early disease detection and precision treatment planning.

This visit deepened the delegation’s understanding of real-world medical operations and fostered meaningful dialogue and collaboration at the intersection of medical technology development and the legal system. We sincerely thank the professors from Hanoi Law University and Tunghai University for their visit and invaluable insights. We look forward to strengthening international cooperation between the medical and legal fields and jointly advancing smart healthcare and legal safeguards.

Taichung Veterans General Hospital Launches International Telemedicine Services with the Taiwan Association Inc., Philippines – First Cross-Border Teleconsultation Case Successfully Completed, Continuing to Safeguard the Health of Overseas Nationals

In April 2025, Taichung Veterans General Hospital (TCVGH) traveled to Manila, Philippines, to host a health seminar and promote its international telemedicine services, demonstrating its commitment to caring for the health of overseas Taiwanese and business communities. The event drew enthusiastic participation from local Taiwanese expatriates and entrepreneurs. In addition to sharing the latest health information and disease prevention knowledge, the TCVGH team listened closely to the real challenges faced by the local community in accessing medical resources and services.

This visit marks a significant milestone as TCVGH officially launches its telemedicine services in the Philippines and successfully completes its first cross-border teleconsultation case. Using a real-time video link, TCVGH’s medical specialists provided direct consultation and health education to a local patient in the Philippines, offering professional recommendations and assistance for further treatment—ensuring that quality healthcare from Taiwan is accessible even when living abroad.

The success of this first case highlights the practical implementation of international telemedicine. It not only shortens the wait time for medical care among overseas nationals but also reduces the time and cost of returning to Taiwan for treatment. By leveraging technology, Taiwan’s high-quality medical resources can now extend beyond national borders, realizing the vision of “healthcare without boundaries for overseas communities.”
Looking ahead, TCVGH will continue to strengthen its collaboration with overseas Taiwanese associations and business networks, expanding its telemedicine capabilities and reaching more people around the world. No matter where they are, overseas Taiwanese can continue to feel reassured and reap the benefits of healthcare from home.

2025 Vietnam-Taiwan International Scientific Conference for Advances in Hybrid Surgical Interventions

Taichung Veterans General Hospital (TCVGH) has expanded its international medical collaboration with Vietnam. On April 26, led by Superintendent Prof. Yun-Ching Fu, a delegation traveled to Hanoi, Vietnam, to co-host the Vietnam-Taiwan International Scientific Conference for Advances in Hybrid Surgical Interventions with Hanoi Medical University Hospital. The symposium focused on three major areas: interventional therapy, minimally invasive surgery, and smart healthcare development. More than 700 participants joined the conference both onsite and online, reflecting an enthusiastic response.

The symposium brought together leading medical teams from both Taiwan and Vietnam. Keynote speeches covered the latest clinical advancements in cardiovascular interventions, structural heart disease, orthopedic minimally invasive techniques, oncology treatments, and endoscopic surgery, as well as emerging technologies such as AI-assisted diagnosis, robotic surgery, and image-guided navigation. The event featured a wide range of topics, promoting the exchange of clinical expertise and patient care practices, while also strengthening bilateral collaboration in clinical technology and development.

Founded in 1902, Hanoi Medical University is Vietnam’s oldest and most prestigious medical institution. Its affiliated hospital, established in 2007, integrates medical education, research, and clinical services, thus providing high-quality healthcare and serving as a vital training base for both medical students and researchers. The hospital houses 500 patient beds along with multiple specialized centers, and is equipped with modern medical facilities, committing itself to advancing patient-centered care.

According to TCVGH’s International Medical Service Center, Prof. Nguyen Lan Hieu, President of Hanoi Medical University Hospital, visited Taiwan in October 2024 to attend TCVGH’s 42nd anniversary and international medical conference, during which time a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed to initiate staff training and medical experience exchanges between the two institutions. This year, TCVGH made its first return visit to Hanoi and co-hosted the medical conference, aiming to strengthen cooperation in the fields of both medical education and clinical research, jointly building a high-quality cross-border healthcare service network.

Additionally, TCVGH hosted a "Healthcare Seminar for Taiwanese Businesspeople and Overseas Compatriots in Northern Vietnam" in Hanoi on April 25th of this year. That particular seminar covered heart health, bone care, gastrointestinal health, and smart health checkups, delivering the latest medical knowledge and healthcare concepts to nearly 100 attendees, in turn receiving very positive feedback from those in attendance.

Through organizing the international conference and healthcare seminar in Vietnam, TCVGH continues to actively support Taiwan’s New Southbound Policy while also further strengthening its influence in the international healthcare arena. Each of the events concluded successfully, with all of the participants leaving the gatherings feeling extremely satisfied with the progress which was made. Special thanks go out to Ambassador Shih-Chung Liu, Minister Yi-Min Lin, Honorary President of The Council of Taiwanese Chambers of Commerce in Vietnam Yu-Feng Yang, Overseas Community Affairs Council Member Zhi-Hua Hong, and the team from Hanoi Medical University Hospital led by Prof. Nguyen Lan Hieu for all of their strong support and collaboration. The fruitful results of this Taiwan–Vietnam medical exchange created an absolute win-win outcome. TCVGH will continue to promote international cooperation projects, enhancing both service capacity and quality of care in order to better benefit more patients both domestically and abroad.
