UDI code is a cost-effective approach to manage various terminological data. Modern surgical process contains more supply chain support than bare hands surgery. The surgical team is not the only one to get benefit from UDI. Each role of reprocessing cycle takes advantage. Without saying a word how surgeons get the perfect right needle holder with suture? Yes, scrub nurse, especially an experienced pro. We were once told that a scrub nurse takes probably 5 years before to distinguish DeBakey and Cooley. They work much harder than people ever expected to learn about surgical instruments.

What if the experienced pro is busy with next door surgery, not mine? Maybe the UDI code, direct marked on instruments, can help your surgical team. Unique Device Identification code is the ID of each instrument. 10 mosquito forceps have 10 individual code, which is not sequence number or series number, but GS1-DataMatrix. Once the UDI code was scanned at using point, related data can be linked digitally to in-house database. The UDI code helps the surgical team to do time-out, to confirm item accuracy and to relieve from stress.
