Our Filipino alumnus 🇵🇭, Dr. John has successfully completed his infectious dermatology clinical training in Taiwan 🇹🇼 with placements at 𝗧𝗜𝗛𝗧𝗖’𝘀 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 – 𝗧𝗮𝗶𝗽𝗲𝗶 𝗧𝘇𝘂 𝗖𝗵𝗶 𝗛𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗮𝗼𝘆𝘂𝗮𝗻 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗛𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹, 𝗠𝗢𝗛𝗪 🏨

Dr. John shared several insightful takeaways during his training✍️✨:

🔹𝗣𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 & 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲𝘀 🦠🧴
He was impressed by Taiwan’s preventive health strategies—such as the 𝗔𝗜𝗗𝗦 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝘁 𝗧𝗮𝗼𝘆𝘂𝗮𝗻 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗛𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹, which provides comprehensive care for people living with HIV and supports prevention through education and outreach.
He also noted that infectious dermatology is taught as a single, integrated subject in Taiwan’s medical education, with students covering a broad range of related diseases. In contrast, in the Philippines, this area is often further subdivided into more specialized training.

🔹 𝗛𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 💻📋
Taiwanese hospitals use electronic medical records (EMRs) to manage patient care efficiently. In contrast, many hospitals in the Philippines still rely on paper-based systems, requiring patients to record their own medical history manually.

🔹 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘆 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁💊💰
Taiwan’s National Health Insurance provides extensive coverage for a low monthly premium. Meanwhile, in the Philippines, patients often still pay high out-of-pocket expenses despite making regular contributions.
However, Dr. John highlighted that the Philippines is preparing to implement 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝗹 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲 (𝗨𝗛𝗖), a promising policy reform that aims to improve access and aligning the country’s healthcare system more closely with Taiwan’s model.

Before coming to Taiwan, she had no prior experience in cardiopulmonary rehabilitation. Now, equipped with skills in 𝗖𝗣𝗘𝗧 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝘅𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, she’s planning to set up a new rehab team at her hospital back home 💪💼

Dr. Le appreciated the 𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗹-𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝘀 and was deeply impressed by Taiwan’s healthcare system and TIHTC’s thoughtful support:
