What does "past its prime" means? Let's find out.

●past its prime 已過黃金時期 / 退流行

The word "prime" means excellence. The phrase, "past its prime", means something is no longer at its best, most successful, or most productive stage. Something or someone decline from the peak of performance.

This is one of the folk games in which a loop of string is put around and between the fingers and complex patterns are formed. Nowadays, children also use rubber bands in the game.

This idiom refers to an action carried out to help someone who is in distress or trouble.

A fair-weather friend is a person whose friendship cannot be relied on in times of difficulty.

However, "a friend in need is a friend indeed" is what we call a true friend. This person helps you when you really in need.

Let's look at the following examples:

◇I thought he was a great friend but he's really just a fair-weather friend. He dissapeared when he found out I couldn't help him anymore.

◇No one would accept a fair-weather friend. I expect full support in good times and in bad. I will do the same for my friends.
