Siku ya UKIMWI Duniani. (1.12.2025)

Kwa takribani miaka 45, tumepiga hatua kubwa katika mwitikio dhidi ya VVU.

Maambukizi mapya ya VVU yamepungua kwa asilimia 61 tangu kilele cha maambukizi mwaka 1996, na vifo vitokanavyo na UKIMWI vimepungua kwa asilimia 70 tangu mwaka 2004.

VVU umebadilika kutoka kuwa hukumu ya kifo cha hakika hadi kuwa ugonjwa unaoweza kuzuilika na kutibiwa.

Lakini mafanikio hayo sasa yako hatarini.

Kupungua kwa kasi kwa ufadhili wa kimataifa mwaka huu kumesababisha hitilafu katika huduma za kuzuia VVU, upimaji na matibabu.

Wakati huohuo, maendeleo dhidi ya VVU yamesimama. Kulikuwa na maambukizi mapya ya VVU milioni 1.3 mwaka jana, idadi sawa na miaka miwili iliyotangulia.

Tunachokabiliana nacho ni changamoto kubwa, lakini pia tuna fursa kubwa.

Mapema mwaka huu, WHO ilipendekeza na kuidhinisha lenacapivir, sindano mpya ya muda mrefu kwa ajili ya kuzuia maambukizi ya VVU.

Hii ni mara ya kwanza miongozo kuchapishwa sambamba na uidhinishaji ili kuharakisha upatikanaji.

WHO inatoa wito kwa nchi zote kuharakisha matumizi ya lenacapivir kwa watu walio katika hatari ya VVU, pamoja na kuongeza upatikanaji wa huduma za upimaji na matibabu kwa wale wanaoishi na VVU lakini huenda hawajui.

Lengo letu si dogo, lakini linaweza kufikiwa: kumaliza janga la UKIMWI.
