In collaboration with MEDEL and Zanzibar Outreach Program (ZOP), HearWell organized a two day workshop in Zanzibar for Teachers of the Deaf, Social Workers, Healthcare Professionals, AVTs and Parents on Hearing Devices and rehabilitation for children using hearing devices (Hearing Aids and Cochlear Implants).

A total of 30 participants, from 5 different institutions (NGO, Government and Private), participated in this 2 day event.

These are the first steps in establishing a sustainable model for rehabilitating children with hearing devices

Attending the ALEXORL 2025. We had the opportunity to present at the conference as invited faculty from Tanzania on the Cochlear Implant Program in Tanzania and Objective methods for fitting of Cochlear Implants.

We also visited the Elite hospital in Alexandria and observed a CI Surgery of an adult patient.

A visit to egypt is not done without seeing the marvels of the pyramids and recapping on the history lessons!

Another round of Temporal Bone Dissection workshop involving 12 ENT residents (Year 2 and year 3) was held this month to give them a hands on practicals.

Participants were introduced priciples of mastoid surgery and thereafter had an opportunity to have a hands on session.

The first Temporal Bone Dissection workshop of 2025 for ENT Residents and ENT surgeons was held on the 13th and 14th of March 2025.

The workshop was attended by ENT residents and surgeons and included introductory topics such as Anatomy, Myringotomy and Mastoidectomy. The lectures were conducted by Dr. Mawala, Dr. Saddam and Dr. Proscovia, all of whom are very capable CI surgeons from MNH.

The participants also were introduced to Temporal Bone Radiology by Ali Jaffer from HearWell.

Ms. Rashida from HearWell also presented lectures on Phonological and Articulation Disorders and management to the students from MUHAS pursuing Bachelors in AUdiology and Speech Language Pathology.

The workshop was a huge success and opens the venue for sharing knowledge and building capacities for furture otologists, audiologists and speech language pathologists in Tanzania.

The courses are conducted by local experts.
