One of my highlights during this trip was being invited by .health.tanzania to facilitate some sessions for a Mental Health Program. Sharing knowledge regarding stress, depression and PTSD with this amazing group of secondary school children was fulfilling, fun and very engaging.
🔑 Some key takeaways:
1️⃣ We have been taught to associate stress with negative emotions and worry, but what if we learn to embrace stress?
2️⃣ Depressive disorder affect more 332 million people worldwide, and women are at a higher risk of developing depression than men
3️⃣ Unmanaged stress can lead to chronic stress, that can lead to both physiological and psychological challenges
4️⃣ Sources to depressive disorder can vary from social factors, biological factors, internal and external factors
5️⃣ PTSD can present similar symptoms of depression, therefore sometimes misdiagnosed at first
6️⃣ PTSD can exist alongside depression, substance use and other challenges
Our bodies, minds and souls are connected. What may start mentally can lead to physical challenges and vice versa. Remember to take your health and mental wellbeing seriously 💚
