✨ Happy New Year 2026! ✨
As we step into this new year, we do so with gratitude, purpose, and renewed energy.

At the heart of our work is a clear and unwavering focus: serving marginalized rural health communities. We are incredibly excited to continue saving the lives of mothers and children, where the need is greatest and access is limited.

In 2026, we remain deeply committed and passionate about pushing forward life-saving innovations. One of our key priorities this year is the scale-up of our NASG (Non-Pneumatic Anti-Shock Garment) initiative—currently being carefully developed and “cooked” to reach more facilities, more providers, and ultimately, more lives.

This journey is not one we walk alone. We are grateful for the collaboration, trust, and shared vision of our global and local health partners. Together, we will continue to strengthen health systems, empower frontline providers, and protect the most vulnerable.

Here’s to a year of impact, partnership, and life-saving action.
Let’s keep pushing. Let’s keep serving. Let’s keep saving lives. 💙

🌍🦠 ANTIMICROBIAL AWARENESS WEEK 2025 🦠🌍
Together, we can stop antimicrobial resistance (AMR).

Antimicrobial resistance is a growing global threat that affects everyone—patients, families, healthcare workers, and communities. When antibiotics and other antimicrobial medicines stop working, simple infections become harder to treat, hospital stays become longer, and lives are put at risk.

This week, we join the world in raising awareness and taking action to preserve the power of antimicrobials.

💡 How YOU can help prevent resistance:
✔️ Use antibiotics only when prescribed by a qualified health professional
✔️ Never share or use leftover antibiotics
✔️ Complete the full course of treatment even if you feel better
✔️ Practice proper hand hygiene
✔️ Ensure vaccination is up to date
✔️ Promote clean water, sanitation, and infection prevention practices

🧑‍⚕️ Healthcare workers: Strengthen infection prevention, ensure rational prescribing, and educate patients.
🧑‍🌾 Farmers & Veterinarians: Use antibiotics responsibly and support clean production systems.
🏛️ Policy Makers: Invest in AMR surveillance, stewardship, and community education.

Together, let’s protect our future.
Stop the spread. Preserve our medicines. Save lives.

🌟 Live a Life Free From Diabetes — Your Health, Your Power! 🌟
Hello, friends! 💙 Did you know that you hold tremendous power to reduce your risk of developing diabetes, especially type 2? Here are simple, effective habits you can start today to live stronger, healthier and more vibrant:

✅ Top Health Tips for Preventing Diabetes
Move your body — Aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate activity most days (walking, dancing, cycling). Regular exercise helps your body use insulin better and keeps blood sugar in check.

Choose wholesome foods — Focus on whole grains, fresh fruits & vegetables, lean protein, healthy fats and limit sugary drinks and ultra-processed snacks.

Keep a healthy weight — Excess body fat (especially around the belly) increases the risk of insulin resistance. Even modest weight loss makes a big difference.

Avoid to***co & limit alcohol — Smoking and heavy drinking both increase your risk of diabetes and related complications.
Get regular check-ups — Know your numbers: blood sugar, blood pressure, cholesterol. Early detection of any changes means earlier intervention. According to World Health Organization (WHO), many people are living with undiagnosed diabetes.

Sleep well & manage stress — Poor sleep and high stress can affect your hormones and raise diabetes risk. Prioritise rest and relaxation.

Stay informed and engaged — Diabetes prevention is not just for individuals. Communities, workplaces and schools can all play a role.

By embracing these habits, you’re not just reducing your personal risk — you’re setting a positive example for family, friends and your entire community. Let’s make health contagious! 🧡

🌍 Saving Lives with NASG in Siha,KCMC-Kilimanjaro 🌍

On 13/09/2025, a mother was referred from Siha District Hospital to KCMC Regional Hospital after experiencing a severe case of abruptio placentae. She had undergone an emergency C-section, lost about 1.5 liters of blood, and her hemoglobin had dropped critically to 6.

On arrival, she was in hypovolemic shock. The healthcare team immediately applied the Non-Pneumatic Anti-Shock Garment (NASG). The NASG was kept on for 24 hours while resuscitation and blood transfusion were arranged.

Thanks to this timely intervention, the mother stabilized, received two units of blood, and recovered well. Her newborns were also admitted for care and are doing fine. 💙

✨ This real case is a powerful testimony of how the NASG can save lives by bridging the gap between emergency referral and definitive treatment—especially in resource-limited settings.

Improving health care is a pressing issue in Nepal. Despite progress, critical issues in health care access and quality keep morbidity and mortality rates high.

The Baal Swasthya project, a collaboration of Corus organizations Lutheran World Relief and IMA World Health, is transforming health outcomes by reducing barriers and enhancing health services. Innovative components of the project include the E-MOTIVE intervention package and the non-pneumatic antishock garment (NASG) to address postpartum hemorrhage, a leading cause of maternal mortality. By partnering with the Nepal Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (NESOG), Baal Swasthya has strengthened the capacity of health care workers to implement the E-MOTIVE package and utilize the NASG in clinical settings.

🌍 Testimonial from Siha District Hospital – The Life-Saving Impact of NASG 💙

Recently, Siha District Hospital, one of our project beneficiaries, managed a critical case of postpartum hemorrhage caused by uterine atony.

The healthcare team promptly applied the Non-Pneumatic Anti-Shock Garment (NASG) alongside a uterine balloon tamponade before transferring the patient to Mawenzi Regional Referral Hospital.

Upon arrival, a practitioner who had not received prior training on NASG attempted to remove the garment. The patient’s condition deteriorated rapidly. Thankfully, trained practitioners quickly intervened, reapplied the NASG, and stabilized the patient in combination with continued resuscitation and supportive care.

After six hours, bleeding had stopped, the NASG was safely removed, and the patient made a full recovery—receiving three units of whole blood and two units of fresh frozen plasma, with no surgery required.

This incident highlighted the critical role of training. Mawenzi Hospital has since prioritized strengthening NASG knowledge and practice, with previously trained SAMITA VTT practitioners stepping forward to mentor their colleagues.

👉 This is a powerful reminder: with timely intervention, knowledge, and the right tools, mothers’ lives can be saved.

🌍 Strengthening Maternal & Child Health through Ultrasound Services

Ultrasound remains one of the most essential diagnostic tools in improving maternal and child health outcomes.

At Siha Hospital, we are continually reminded of the life-saving impact of the ultrasound machine donated under the PANETA initiative. Each day, it stands as a symbol of hope and progress for mothers and children.

📌 Radiographer Hillary continues to share inspiring stories of how women in Siha are benefiting from this service — with early detection of complications transforming care and saving lives. These powerful testimonials highlight the true value of this donation.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Rita Rampure — your generosity and compassion will forever be remembered within this hospital and the Siha community. 💙

🤝 Special thanks to PANETA, Siha Hospital, healthcare providers, and all partners who make this journey possible. Together, we are ensuring healthier futures for mothers and children.

**🚨 A story of collaboration, training, and a life saved. 🚨**

Last year, we equipped the incredible team at the KCMC Zonal Hospital maternity wing with specialized training and 10 life-saving Non-Pneumatic Anti-Shock Garments (NASGs). Recently, we saw this investment in action.

A patient with severe postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) was in critical condition. Despite emergency surgery, she remained in profound shock. The medical team sprang into action, deploying one of the donated NASGs.

The garment stabilized her, acting as a vital "bridge to life" for 72 hours in the ICU. Today, she is on the road to recovery.

This is what happens when we unite for a common goal. The NASG is a powerful tool, but it’s the skilled hands of healthcare workers and the support of a global community that truly saves lives.

This success was made possible through collaboration. With gratitude to our partners and stakeholders who make such impact possible:

• (Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre) - Your team's skill is inspiring.

• Tanzania (Ministry of Health Tanzania) - Thank you for your leadership in strengthening health systems.

• / - Your support fuels our mission.

• / - Your global guidance paves the way.

• - Together, we are turning the tide.

This is proof that achieving zero preventable maternal deaths is possible
