Amref Health Africa Tanzania

Amref Health Africa Tanzania Amref Health Africa helps to create lasting health change in Africa. Amref Health Africa is the largest international health NGO based in Africa.

Our vision is to bring lasting health change in Africa. Since 1957, Amref Health Africa, has been working with the most vulnerable African communities to achieve lasting health change. We believe that the power to transform Africa’s health lies within her communities. Amref Health Africa works side by side with the people of these communities to build the knowledge, skills, and means to transform their health; laying foundations that will be felt for generations to come. We support those at the heart of the communities, particularly women and children, to bring about lasting health improvement. Simply put, transforming Africa’s health from within

Cervical cancer is one of the most preventable cancers, yet it remains a leading cause of cancer deaths among women in Africa. Many women are diagnosed too late, often because screening was delayed while life went on.

⏱️ Cervical cancer often shows no early symptoms; waiting for pain can cost lives.

World Health Organization’s elimination goal is clear: 70% of women screened by age 35 and again by 45.

Prevention starts with access and political will.

When the right information reaches the right people, it becomes a powerful tool for change 📣✨

At Amref Health Africa Tanzania , we are strengthening health systems by championing people-centred solutions that leave no one behind. Through our Enhancing Epilepsy Care in Africa (EECA) Project, we convened a one-day stakeholder co-creation meeting in Dodoma Region to finalize Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health – Health Promotion Elimu Ya Afya and Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) Sections 🤝📘

These IEC materials will support community awareness, address myths and misconceptions around epilepsy, improve understanding, and increase the uptake of epilepsy services at the community level 🧠💬
About our project:

Our EECA Project in Dodoma, funded by the Band Foundation and supported by the UCB Innovation for Health Equity Fund, aims to improve access to quality epilepsy care in Bahi and Chamwino districts, contributing to national efforts to strengthen specialized health services within communities.

Our Story

Amref Health Africa is an international African organisation headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya. Amref Health Africa has over 60 years’ experience in health development. In 1957, three surgeons founded the Flying Doctors Service of East Africa, laying the foundation for what is now one of the continent’s leading health development and research organisations. Today, Amref Health Africa implements its projects through country programmes in Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, Tanzania, Senegal, South Sudan and South Africa. Training and consulting support are provided to an additional 30 African countries. Amref Health Africa believes that by focusing on the health of women and children, the health of the whole community can be improved. We are concerned with skilled care of mothers before, during and after childbirth; prevention and treatment of cervical cancer, and proper management of childhood illnesses. Our main areas of intervention are maternal and child health; HIV and Tuberculosis; safe water and sanitation; malaria; and essential clinical care. Amref Health Africa shares knowledge gained from our grassroots programmes with others, and uses it as evidence to advocate appropriate change in health policy and practice. In all our programmes, Amref Health Africa partners with communities, civil society organisations, health practitioners, and the private and public sectors to establish a participatory health care system.
