UMATI

UMATI Chama Cha Uzazi Na Malezi Bora Tanzania (UMATI) is a not for profit, non-governmental organization providing Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR). i. ii.

The strategic identity of UMATI comprises the statements of the Vision, Mission and the core-values. The Vision Statement of UMATI:
A Tanzania where people are free to choose and exercise their Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights without discrimination
The visioning process of UMATI highlighted the need to integrate “without discrimination” as a recurring theme as well as an organizational v

alue statement. “Freedom of choice” was agreed as a paramount inclusion as the end that UMATI would love to see by doing its core business. These two foundational statements were thus refined into the resulting vision statement. It was felt necessary that translating the vision statement into Kiswahili would strongly reflect its significance, and sharing the statement with selected funders and stakeholders would galvanize ownership as well as credibility of UMATI within their spheres of operations. UMATI’s Mission Statement:
To champion SRHR, and provide information and services targeting the young and underserved. In coming up with the Mission Statement, cognizance was put on the strategic position of UMATI as a leading SRHR service provider. This was eventually replaced by “champion” recognizing the need to lead not only by provision of services but also enabling other service providers. It was recognized that the youth and underserved are a critical focus of UMATI inasmuch as other cohorts of the society play an important role. The core business of information and services could not be gainsaid. These founded UMATI’s mission statement. iii. UMATI’s core-values:
A total of 22 core values were proposed. In assessing their congruency with lived experiences of UMATI some were found to be components of others and thus merged, whereas others were felt too broad to strike a chord with the association. The agreed core-values are indicated below, with proposed statements which will be further refined by UMATI. Core-Value Descriptive Statement[UMATI believes:….]
