*DON'T DELAY TO TREAT KIDNEY DISEASE.*
*Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a long-term condition characterized by a gradual loss of kidney function over time. It is defined by a decreased glomerular filtration rate (GFR) or evidence of kidney damage, such as proteinuria (excess protein in the urine), that persists for more than three months.*
CKD can progress to end-stage renal disease (ESRD), requiring dialysis or a kidney transplant. Risk factors for CKD include diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, and a family history of kidney disease.
Symptoms often do not appear until kidney function is significantly impaired.
*Causes of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD):*
1. **Diabetes**: High blood sugar levels can damage blood vessels in the kidneys.
2. **High Blood Pressure (Hypertension)**: Increased pressure can damage kidney blood vessels over time.
3. **Glomerulonephritis**: Inflammation of the kidney's filtering units (glomeruli).
4. **Polycystic Kidney Disease**: A genetic disorder causing cysts in the kidneys.
5. **Prolonged Obstruction**: Conditions like kidney stones, enlarged prostate, or some cancers that block the urinary tract.
6. **Recurrent Kidney Infections (Pyelonephritis)**: Can cause scarring and damage.
7. **Autoimmune Diseases**: Such as lupus, which can affect multiple organs including the kidneys.
8. **Toxins and Drugs**: Long-term use of certain medications, including some over-the-counter pain relievers, and exposure to toxins.
9. **Chronic Kidney Infections**: Or recurrent urinary tract infections.
10. **Vascular Diseases**: Affecting the blood vessels in the kidneys.
*Effects of Chronic Kidney Disease:*
1. **Fluid Retention**: Leading to swelling in limbs, high blood pressure, or fluid in the lungs (pulmonary edema).
2. **Electrolyte Imbalance**: Such as high potassium (hyperkalemia), which can affect heart function.
3. **Cardiovascular Disease**: Increased risk of heart disease, heart attack, and stroke.
4. **Bone Disease**: As kidneys fail to maintain calcium and phosphorus balance, leading to bone weakening (osteodystrophy).
5. **Anemia**: Reduced production of erythropoietin, leading to decreased red blood cell production.
6. **Acidosis**: Accumulation of acid in the body due to impaired kidney function.
7. **Nerve Damage (Neuropathy)**: Resulting in tingling or numbness.
8. **Nutritional Deficiencies**: Poor appetite and changes in metabolism can lead to malnutrition.
9. **Compromised Immune System**: Making it harder to fight infections.
10. **Mental and Cognitive Impairments**: Due to the buildup of toxins in the blood.
11. **Dermatologic Issues**: Such as dry, itchy skin.
12. **Gastrointestinal Problems**: Nausea, vomiting, and loss of appetite.

➖ Avoid too much salt
➖Stay hydrated
➖Long term use of drugs it is not safe
➖ Alcohol must be avoided
➖ High blood pressure patients are at high risk please get treatment
➖ Diabetes should be treated.
CKD often progresses silently, with few symptoms until the kidneys are significantly damaged. Early detection and management are crucial to slow the progression of the disease and mitigate its effects.
