The AFRICARhE team from Malawi, Ethiopia, and the Netherlands is visiting KCMC/KCRI from July 5–9 to conduct a "Training of Trainers" workshop in preparation for upcoming prospective studies on Rh disease in all participating countries. The primary aim of the study is to assess the burden of Rh disease and explore feasible screening strategies across different healthcare settings. A key component of the project is also to raise awareness about Rh disease.
In Tanzania and Ethiopia, the study will focus on screening for blood groups, pregnancy follow-up, and the use of anti-D prophylaxis for prevention. In Malawi, the “Jaundiced Baby
Project” will begin, enrolling 500 newborns to investigate the underlying causes of neonatal jaundice.
Through this collaborative effort, the AFRICARhE team has strengthened study protocols and shared knowledge through hands-on training, including simulations with mock patients.
