Meet Mama Sango Mahinye, a 101-year-old woman from Ikhoho Village in rural Mbeya, Tanzania. For five years, she lived in darkness due to bilateral cataracts, compounded by a fractured leg that kept her confined indoors. Today, thanks to a *free* cataract surgery supported by Helen Keller International cat Mbeya District Hospital, her vision has been restored (Visual Acuity: OD 6/12, OS 6/12, BE 6/9-3). Overjoyed, she can’t wait to see her children and grandchildren again and return to her village.
A life free from preventable blindness is POSSIBLE. Together, let’s eliminate cataracts—especially in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).
