In our own words, the in-person module at the British Academy of Sound Therapy was filled with exploration, curiosity, clarity, joy, community, confidence, and professionalism.
Our teachers — , Karina, and Leonel — generously shared their experience and knowledge, and we received it with deep gratitude. In return, we gained not only joy, but also a sense of community, confidence, and professionalism.
Starting my journey in sound therapy with BAST a year ago has been one of the most important and right decisions I’ve made. In times of global transformation, taking care of mental health is as essential as brushing your teeth — a daily routine.
Sound therapy is a fascinating, eco-friendly, and evidence-based method for supporting a healthy mind.
We worked deeply with gongs, singing bowls, crystal pyramids, therapeutic percussion, and drums — each instrument offering a unique vibrational language. Research shows that sound vibrations can help regulate the nervous system, shifting brainwave states from active beta into more relaxed alpha and theta states, which are associated with deep relaxation, meditation, and healing. Studies have also indicated that sound-based practices may reduce stress, lower cortisol levels, and support emotional release.
Gongs and singing bowls create rich harmonic overtones that can entrain the brain and promote a meditative state. Crystal instruments, such as pyramids, produce precise frequencies that interact with the body on a subtle energetic level. Therapeutic percussion and drumming have been linked to improved mood, reduced anxiety, and even enhanced immune response through rhythmic entrainment and group synchronisation.
