Mykola Pavlovych Sirenko was born in the village of Lityachi, Ternopil region, in 1958. He completed 8 grades at a local school. He has no further education and did not serve in the army. He worked on collective farms, animal farms, hoeing and harvesting vegetables, and grazing livestock. From time to time, he took on extra work. He got married and had a son. They lived as a family in his mother-in-law's house. His life changed forever on 7 January 1992, when his wife and son were killed in a car accident caused by a drunk driver. Mykola was working in the Dnipropetrovsk region at the time. He arrived just in time for the funeral. After the tragedy, he started drinking. From 1993 to 1996, he was in prison for hooliganism. When he returned to his native village, he found that the village council had taken his house. Since then, he has worked in various cities in the fields and rented accommodation. His friends invited him to the spiritual centre ‘Vidrodzhennia’ (Renaissance). He came to Kyiv in 2011 to study at their ‘college’.
After that, he was a leader in rehabilitation centres, but because he himself abused substances, he periodically found himself either as a client or as a leader. Until he ended up on the street. He spent some time wandering around monasteries. And in the end, due to his age, health problems, and the cold, he ended up at the HOM social centre. We are currently treating Mykola for pneumonia and plan to arrange for him to be admitted to a state nursing home.
