Nothing to be afraid of: Fitness will keep you from getting hurt
A barrier to fitness in adulthood may be the fear that exercise will do more harm than good. Many people fear that fitness can cause or exacerbate pain in existing diseases, and any awkward movement - lead to injury. Scientists are in favor of not giving in to these fears, given how much activity improves the quality of life of the older generation.
First, its representatives have access to programs and activities in which the risks are minimal: Nordic walking, yoga, tai chi, water aerobics, soft fitness and many others. Secondly, a properly chosen load, on the contrary, helps to strengthen muscles and avoid "accidents" - traumatic falls. And also - to relieve pain syndrome, for example, in arthritis. A study by researchers at the Feinberg School of Medicine in Northwestern, Southwestern, found that the benefits of exercising are far-reaching. The study of scientists from Feinberg School of Medicine (Northwestern University, Illinois, USA) showed that just 45 minutes of physical activity a week allows older people with arthritis to maintain mobility and well-being. The activity itself should be medium-level, such as brisk walking. In this case, the possibility of improving health is 80% higher than with low-intensity activity of less than 45 minutes per week. Another study showed that regular exercise (brisk walking, running) reduces pain syndrome by 25% in older people. They came to this conclusion by observing subjects over the age of 60 for 14 years.
