On Monday, July 8, during the second attack on Kyiv, the Russian occupants hit not only «Okhmatdyt»

Around 1:00 p.m., in the Dniprovskyi district, as a result of a rocket attack by the Russians, the building of one of the branches of the ADONIS medical center was found to be significantly damaged.

Consequently of this terrorist act, 7 people died: 5 employees and 2 patients.

The building of the medical center suffered significant damage: the fourth floor, where the polyclinic was located, was destroyed, and the hospital, which was located below, was also damaged. The preliminary amount of damages is estimated at more than 2 million dollars.

This branch has worked for over 28 years and was one of the first in the ADONIS network.

The company needs help restoring the destroyed building, and we would be grateful for your support and assistance during this difficult time.

Will IVF Work With PCOS❓

Women with polycystic o***y syndrome (PCOS) produce imbalanced levels of hormonal secretions in their ovaries, so instead of stimulating one follicle to produce one mature egg during their cycle, numerous follicles are inappropriately stimulated but can’t mature, so form tiny cysts. This then further disrupts any hormonal secretions, and without the right hormonal environment, the possibility of fertilization and implantation is reduced.

As there is no real clear-cut reason for PCOS, it is easy to feel like you have no control over your own body or hormones if you are diagnosed. But it is important to remember that it is manageable.

❗Normally we have the same good results with PCOS patients that we have with all patients, however, one of the additional risks is an increased risk of hyperstimulation as a result of the IVF process.

In order to assess this risk, we always monitor the ovarian reserve of the patient by assessing the number of follicles the patient has before starting the IVF process. This is very important as this will dictate the specific dose regimen for the patient, which is helpful to prevent the risk of developing hyperstimulation during IVF.

One of the most important components of your medical journey to Ukraine is the logistics of the trip and accommodations. Let’s talk about Kyiv, the city where ADONIS patients stay for some time – it can be a couple of days or a couple of months.

We’ve collected for you the key points regarding our patients’ care services:

🔷 Firstly, our customers meet their personal coordinators, who provide them with all essential information about the treatment program and Ukraine, of course. This step is carried out even before they travel to Kyiv. Our patients’ care manager – Darya Detsyura – helps you with accommodation, airport transfer, and all-around support.

🔷 We have well-developed presentations for each treatment program of ADONIS. Knowing the main information about budget, requirements, and wishes of our patients, we can send them the best selection of offers (apartments, hotels, transfers) from which they can choose the one just for them. Everything is clear and transparent in the area of prices, locations, and additional advantages for comfort.

🔷 In most cases, we pick our patients from the airport and bring them to the hotel or apartments. For such transfers, we provide our branded eco-friendly car. In case of being far away from hotel/apartments, we recommend using only taxi services to ensure the best safety (we provide them with the approved list of taxi services). We also have partners which can provide the rental of branded cars with English-speaking drivers. Also, there were such cases when patients requested the bodyguards or security (because of patients’ position and status) – this kind of service is also available.

🔷 On the left bank of Kyiv, where ADONIS Maternity Hospitals are located, the prices for accommodations can be 50-60$ for the night, which is really affordable. In the city center, it can be more expensive – around 85$ for a night and two-bedroom apartments for 100$. The more luxurious options will be higher. Nevertheless, we will find the best variant for you within your budget.

🔷When arriving in Ukraine, you have to be vaccinated or have the PCR test which indicates you have no COVID-19 (72 hours before the trip). And no matter what restrictions are, ADONIS is always supporting their patients – we can prepare the medical invitation letter that indicates your treatment, changes the dates of your Program start, or provide the highest care for your baby with the Program “Waiting until your arrival”. The highest safety is the main value.

🔷 We have approved partners -agencies that ensure nanny’s services (you can interview the candidates to choose the best one for you, they are all English-speaking, vaccinated, and with medical education).

🔷Both airports in Kyiv have a great backup for the clients with VIP service for check-in and lounge zone, which is especially comfortable when you are with the baby, for example.

What is PGS?

Preimplantation genetic screening (PGS) is the special testing of an embryo before it is transferred.

✅PGS increases:
▪ the chances of successful IVF;
▪ the likelihood of having a genetically healthy child.

✅PGS reduces:
▪ the risk of complications during pregnancy;
▪ the need for repeated IVF cycles (which reduces the time and costs of treatment).

Preimplantation genetic screening makes it possible to exclude the possibility of developing monogenic chromosomal diseases in the embryo: cystic fibrosis, spinal muscular atrophy, neurofibromatosis, Marfan syndrome, Huntington's chorea, Martin-Bell syndrome, Duchenne muscular dystrophy. As well as chromosomal abnormalities: Down syndrome, Edwards syndrome, Patau syndrome.

When PGS is a good option❓
▪ Unexplained infertility in couples of young reproductive age;
▪ the woman's age is 35 years and older and she is not pregnant when receiving embryos with normal morphology;
▪ the age of the future mother is 37 years and older;
▪ the presence of 2 or more unsuccessful IVF cycles in the history of the couple;
▪ reduced semen parameters (oligoasthenoteratozoos***mia, azoos***mia, high s***m DNA fragmentation, poor s***m morphology).

❗Preimplantation genetic screening is recommended for parents with an altered karyotype and a high risk of passing on hereditary pathology to the child:
▪ one/both parents are carriers of balanced chromosome aberrations;
▪ male infertility associated with microdeletion of the AZF locus;
▪ one/both parents are carriers of X-chromosome mutations.

📌 IVF Treatment: When Do You Pay?

So you have decided to start IVF treatment at the ADONIS clinic. We wrote about the medical side of your fertility journey in the previous article. Today we will talk about the payments during the program.

First of all, you come to the clinic and undergo additional examinations (if necessary) with our fertility specialist. Based on these examinations, the doctor confirms the exact program.

Next, we sign a contract with you and then two options are possible:

1) If your IVF program requires a donation of eggs or semen, then first you pay for the search of a donor, and within 10 days at most, we select the ideal candidate according to your parameters. We recommend doing this step while you are still in your country. That is, we select a donor for you in advance, you approve it, we synchronize your cycle with the donor’s (if it is an egg donation program) and only then you come to our clinic.

2) You’re going to start an IVF program with your own biomaterial (program without egg or s***m donation). In this case, you simply pay for the program and we begin the treatment.

Before Beginning a Cycle of IVF, we advise you to consider some important questions, including:

1. How many embryos will be transferred?
The number of embryos transferred is typically based on age and the number of eggs retrieved. Since the rate of implantation is lower for older women, more embryos are usually transferred — except for women using donor eggs or genetically tested embryos.
Make sure you and your doctor agree on the number of embryos that will be transferred before the transfer procedure.

2. What will you do with any extra embryos? Extra embryos can be frozen and stored for future use for several years. Not all embryos will survive the freezing and thawing process, although most will.
Having frozen embryos can make future cycles of IVF less expensive and less invasive. You might also choose to discard unused embryos.

3. How will you handle a multiple pregnancy? If more than one embryo is transferred to your uterus, IVF can result in the multiple pregnancy — which poses health risks for you and your babies. In some cases, a fetal reduction can be used to help a woman deliver fewer babies with lower health risks. Pursuing this procedure, however, is a major decision with ethical, emotional, and psychological consequences.
