Prof. Gennadiy FUZAYLOV is a pediatric anesthesiologist on the active medical staff at Shriners Hospitals for Children — Boston and for the department of anesthesia, critical care and pain medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital. He is an assistant professor at Harvard Medical School and has participated in multiple international medical missions over the world. He currently works with several medical centers in Ukraine to improve pediatric burn care and prevent children’s burn trauma in Ukraine.

Dr. Fuzaylov is the president and founder of Doctors Collaborating to Help Childrens, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving medical care for children throughout the world.

Dr. Ihor PEREHINETS, MD, MPH, Deputy Minister of Health of Ukraine, in his current position is responsible for health care system reform coordination, including public health services development and international technical assistance coordination.
Prior joining the Ministry of Health of Ukraine in February 2015, Dr Perehinets served as a Deputy WHO Representative to Ukraine. He holds MD degree

Prof. Mariya SHEHEDYN is rector of Higher Educational Communal Institution of Lviv Regional Council “Lviv Institute of Nursing and Laboratory Medicine named after Andrey Krupynskyy”. Under her guidance training of Bachelors of Medicine in Nursing and Laboratory Diagnostics was introduced first in Ukraine. Also upon the initiative of Mariya Shehedyn, training of laboratory assistants from hearing impaired young people started in 1997 and training of massage nurses from visually impaired young people was launched in 2006. As a rector, she works tirelessly to improve the contents of nurses’ education.
She is a co-author of temporary norms of work of nurses in health care institutions and family medicine in Lviv region. Currently she is working on standardization of nurses’ activity in all spheres of medicine; she is engaged in elaborating documentation on nursing of a new generation.
Prof. Mariya Shehedyn is an Honored Doctor of Ukraine. She was awarded the Order of Princess Olga of Third Degree for significant contribution in development of medicine and training of highly qualified medical specialists, lasting productive scientific and pedagogical work.

Mr. Ihor BARDYN is a Canadian lawyer who in 1990 concluded an agreement with the Speaker of the Canadian Parliament John Fraser to establish a parliamentary internship program for university students from Ukraine, to begin in 1991. In 1991 Canadians of Ukrainian ancestry marked the centennial of Ukrainian group immigration to Canada and the renewal of Ukraine’s independence. Ihor Bardyn has directed the Canada-Ukraine Parliamentary Program for the past 25 years. In 2013 in conjunction with the Canada-Ukraine Parliamentary Program, he established the Macdonald-Laurier Program, as a three-year project to assess interest of Ukrainian Canadian university students in a parliamentary internship program in the House of Commons. He believes in the adage that education and knowledge are keys to maintaining democratic governance and principles.
For the past 5 years, Mr. Ihor Bardyn is heading Anna Mazurenko Fund administered by the Medical Committee of the Canada Ukraine Parliamentary Program Alumni Association, to support Ukrainian Children’s Hospitals by bringing new medical equipment.

Oksana Mikheieva – head of the Department of Sociology at the Ukrainian Catholic University (Lviv), doctor of Historical Science (2012), professor of Sociology (2014) She graduated from the Donetsk National University. Title of Candidate dissertation “The crime and the struggle against it in Donbass (1921-1928)”, title of Doctoral dissertation “Establishment and functioning of law enforcement agencies of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic (USSR) (1921-1928)”. In 2000-2014 taught Sociology (Urban Sociology, Family Studies, Sociology of Deviant Behavior) at the Donetsk State University of Management. She has led or participated in over 10 local and international Sociological research projects. She is a member of International Association for the Humanities, Taras Shevchenko Scientific Society, Ukrainian Sociological Association; member of the Editorial Board of the academic peer-reviewed journals “Ukraina Moderna”,“East (Skhid)”, journal of the Theological Faculty of the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn “The Studies of Warmia.”

Dr. Olena Hankivsky, Professor, School of Public Policy at Simon Fraser University and Visiting Professor at London School of Hygiene and Tropical Health received her PhD in Political Science from the University of Western Ontario. She is an internationally recognized expert in gender mainstreaming, health policy, social determinants of health, and intersectionality-based analysis. Dr. Hankivsky has been invited to present her research in Australia, United States, Cuba, Costa Rica, Germany, the United Kingdom, Ukraine and Sweden. She has also developed policy documents and primers and conducted gender-based training for numerous federal and provincial government departments in Canada and Ukraine.
Dr. Hankivsky is a Canadian Institutes of Health Research Gender and Health Research Chair and a Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research Senior Scholar. She is the editor of the recently published Health Inequities in Canada: Intersectional Frameworks and Practices (2011, UBC Press), and co-editor of Women’s Health in Canada: Critical Perspectives on Theory and Policy (2007, University of Toronto Press) and Gender, Politics and the State in Ukraine (forthcoming, University of Toronto Press). She is also the author of Social Policy and the Ethic of Care (2004, University of British Columbia Press). Dr. Hankivsky’s research has been published in journals such as Journal of Health and Social Policy, Critical Social Policy, International Journal of Health Services, Canadian Public Policy, International Journal for Equity and Health, and Social Science and Medicine (for which she is co-editor of a Special Issue on Gender and Health, published in 2012).
As the Director of the Institute for Intersectionality Research and Policy at Simon Fraser University, she provides ongoing training to 4 doctoral and 4 master’s students and through the Institute's Reading and Scholar Group - mentorship and training to over 60 students and faculty across disciplines from various educational institutions in BC and beyond.
Her most recent research project in Ukraine was funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research. In 2012 Dr. Hankivsky led a team of Canadian-Ukrainian researchers to conduct the first nationally representative community consultations in Ukraine where participants could share their experiences with the health care system and concerns about their health status.

Dr. Portwood is currently Professor of Human Resource Management and International Business in Temple University's Fox School of Business and Management. He is also Director of the Temple University Center for European Studies, and since 1990, has been an adjunct Professor of Management at the Graduate School of Business, Central European University, Budapest, Hungary. Dr. Portwood was a Fulbright Fellow in Hungary in 1990-91, and has since led projects promoting economic and social transformation in Central and Eastern Europe funded by the United States Agency for International Development, the Soros Foundation, the Ukrainian Federation of America, and the World Bank. These projects include reform efforts in the public as well as private sectors, with an emphasis on healthcare system restructuring and improvement.

Dr. Portwood is an adviser and program coordinator for FAIMER (Foundation for the Advancement of International Medical Education and Research), and been an active participant in healthcare reform projects in Hungary, Poland, India, Cameroon, Egypt, and Ethiopia, as well as Ukraine. In Ukraine, he has led projects to design and launch a network of community based family practice clinics, and set up the first family practice residency program in the country. He has also been advising on efforts to improve healthcare availability in rural areas of Ukraine through use of web-based technology. Most recently, he has been working with selected prosthetics manufacturers in Ukraine on manufacturing techniques that will produce more fully functional artificial limbs for recent amputees (especially wounded soldiers).

Dr. Patricia Gerrity presently serves as Associate Dean for Community Programs at Drexel University’s College of Nursing & Health Professions. She focused her career on providing access to health care for underserved populations through the advancement of nurse-led health centers. She also serves as the Director of the Stephen & Sandra Sheller Eleventh Street Family Health Services of Drexel University, a nurs-led, federally qualified health center in North Philadelphia. In addition to improving the health status of community residents, the center serves as a site for research, education and practice for the college’s faculty and students. Her current efforts are focused on trauma informed care and building community resilience. Dr. Gerrity completed a prestigious three-year fellowship through the Robert Wood Johnson Executive Nurse Fellows Program where she conducted a leadership project to expand the health center into a healthy living center with a strong community-based health promotion component. Dr. Gerrity earned a PhD in Health Planning from the University of Pennsylvania, Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, Department of City and Regional Planning; a Master of Science in Nursing and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Pennsylvania. Elected to Fellowship in the American Academy of Nursing in 1995, she was named an “Edge Runner” by the Academy in 2008.

Cheryl Portwood is Clinical Assistant Professor at Drexel University’s College of Nursing and Health Professions in Philadelphia, PA. She teaches in the Master of Science in Nursing Advanced Role division and serves as Director for the Nursing Leadership in Health Services Management track.
Prior to joining the Drexel faculty, Professor Portwood served in nursing and hospital executive leadership positions in the Delaware Valley for 25 years as Chief Nursing Officer and Vice President of Patient Care Services. She is board certified in the nursing executive advanced role and as a nurse educator. As part of her faculty role, Professor Portwood previously served as Coordinator of Quality for Distance Learning Programs in Nursing. She has extensive experience teaching in the virtual environment, mentoring faculty, and has presented on topics of online quality and secure testing both nationally and internationally.
Professor Portwood is active in international outreach. She participates in the faculty rotation to Eternal University in Baru Sahib, India, teaching the leadership module for senior BSN students. She served as advisor to a project jointly funded by USAID and the Ukrainian Federation of America to develop a model for deployment of a hospital-based electronic medical record system in Ukraine. She has been directly involved with the UFA in support of efforts to improve healthcare availability for children. She is also serving as project advisor for the Foundation for International Medical Education and Research (FAIMER) Institute which develops emerging leaders in healthcare in developing countries. She served as a consultant for the development of a gerontology curriculum for St Francis School of Health Science in Buea, Cameroon, West Africa.
