Cryoin Engineering is located in southern Ukraine in the port city of Odesa. It exports neon to customers around the world, including in the U.S. It stopped production days ago, and shipments are already delayed.
Ukraine is one of major exporters of neon, used in lasers. They’re critical to the process of manufacturing semiconductors.
That means the chip industry is now facing a shortage of a critical supply — at a moment when it’s already stretched to capacity.

About 90% of semiconductors are created with lasers that require neon gas. Russia and Ukraine are major exporters of the element.

Ukraine produces around 70% of global exports of neon gas. And one of the important suppliers is Cryoin Engineering located in Odessa.
A purified version of that gas is critical to chips that power mobile phones and other electric devices.
The ongoing conflict will affect the global production and supply of smartphones.

ON THURSDAY MORNING, February 24, explosions rocked at least seven cities in Ukraine, heralding the start of a full-scale Russian invasion. Among Putin’s first targets was Odesa, a seaside city huddled around the Black Sea, and one of the country’s busiest ports. But it is also home to a little-known company called Cryoin, which plays a big role in the global production of semiconductors.
Cryoin makes neon gas, a substance used to power the lasers that etch patterns into computer chips.
It supplies companies in Europe, Japan, Korea, China, and Taiwan, but most of its neon is shipped to the US, the company told WIRED. Now analysts are warning that the ripple effects caused by disruption to Cryoin’s supply could be felt around the world.

On February 24, Cryoin top management made a decision to stop the production plants, as the war broke out in the country.
Operation in such conditions is not yet possible, as the safety of our people is the highest consideration.
As soon as it becomes possible, we will restore work immediately for the benefit of both Ukraine’s and global economy.

This June Odessa finally carried the helium festival Balloon Jam Odessa, and Cryoin sponsored the event with helium. It turned out really showy and fun :)
The action brought together 60 aerodesigners from all regions of Ukraine. An initiator of the event was the ambassador of Gemar Company in Ukraine, 13 mentors supervised the process and creation of the figures, and at about 100,000 balloons were used for the parade.
While the festival, we held an eco flash mob for the audience and showed all the used balloons were made with eco-friendly materials and did not harm nature. It decomposes on the principle of an oak leaf, the same with packaging for the balloons. We popularize the idea of conscious consumption, refusal to launch balloons into the sky and their correct recycling.

Cryoin collected Certificate ISO 45001:2018.
Previously, we were certified according to the Standard OHSAS 18001 and tracked global innovations in occupational health and safety.
In 2020, the Company decided to bring the health and safety management system to the requirements of the completely new Standard ISO 45001 to upgrade the level of employee safety, reduce risks at workplace and create better and safer labour conditions.
During the certification audit Cryoin Engineering confirmed that the implemented processes comply with the requirements of the Standard ISO 45001.
