21 achievable New Year's resolutions for your health

Story highlights
A week into the new year, just 77 percent of resolution makers are still on track Outsmarting the odds means setting doable goals, then breaking them down into reasonable steps If you're like almost half of all adults, you have a New Year's resolution. But once the champagne flutes are back on the shelf, it's hard to make that pledge stick. A week into the new year, just 77 percent of resolution makers are still on track, and after six months, only about 40 percent will have stayed the course, according to University of Pennsylvania research.

Why New Year's resolutions fail
Why is maintaining resolutions so tough? Researchers have ID'd several culprits, such as setting a goal that's too vague or having unrealistic expectations (lose 30 pounds by March 1—ha!). But perhaps the biggest challenge is turning your wishes into immediate action, then keeping with it. "It's easy to change your attitude but difficult to change your behavior," explains Christine Whelan, PhD, clinical professor in the School of Human Ecology at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. "If you're committed to it, however, you can make a new habit or behavior permanent."

How to set manageable goals
Outsmarting the odds means setting doable goals (go from couch to 10K, not a triathalon), then breaking them down into reasonable steps. A new you in the new year starts right here.
Find out how to reboot your diet, your workout, your stressful days, and your energy, and how you can make those resolutions stick.

Reboot your diet
When it comes to cleaning up your eating, take a tip from the Boy Scouts: Be prepared. If you want to rise above temptation, like a yummy app spread at a party, you have to think one step ahead, says New York City nutritionist Joy Bauer, RD, Today show contributor and founder of Nourish Snacks. It also helps to have no-deprivation strategies, she adds: "Eating better is often associated with misery, so it's no wonder that so many people throw in the towel." Use these tactics to eat healthier, long-term.

Figure out your "why"
Maybe you hope to set a good example for your kids. Or you're just tired of not fitting into your old jeans. If you know the reason that's fueling your desire to eat better, you can use it to motivate yourself when you're eyeing the dessert menu, says Whelan.

Don't focus on subtracting food
"Instead of making an 'I want to lose weight' pledge, try 'I'm going to put more fruits and vegetables on my plate,'" says Bauer, "so the resolution is a positive action that you can perform over and over." Art Markman, PhD, professor of psychology and marketing at the University of Texas at Austin and author of Smart Change, agrees. "If it's an addition instead of a takeaway, you're more likely to repeat it until the action becomes an automatic habit," he says.

Do a kitchen cleanse
Toss unhealthy products (chips, sugary granolas, sodas) from your pantry, fridge, car and office, advises Maggie Moon, RDN, owner of Everyday Healthy Eating in Los Angeles. Then restock with good-for-you options, like carrots and air-popped popcorn. Make sure you don't have to dig deep to find them: Last year, Cornell University researchers found that women who kept healthy food visible in the kitchen had lower BMIs than those who left j***y products out on their countertops.

Plan for snack attacks
"The hours between mid-afternoon and dinnertime are when cravings kick in hard," says Moon. Before leaving for work, pack a 200-calorie protein-complex carb snack in your purse. Think: hummus and pita chips or pistachios and a pear. Then, when a snack jones strikes, you'll have a go-to treat to avoid unhealthy office snacks.

Reboot your workout
Get-in-shape goals tend to fizzle as early as the third week of January, per recent data based on Facebook searches. Yet some keep at it. What's their secret? "People who are successful are more likely to view fitness as a permanent lifestyle change, not an activity they can give up once they reach a number on the scale," says Kirsten McCormick, founder of Running with Forks, a wellness coaching company in Seattle.

Take it a week at a time
"It's easier to make a plan to go running three times this week than vow to run three times a week indefinitely," says Whelan. "If you make your fitness goals week by week rather than so far-reaching, you'll have more success, and that in itself is motivating."

Raise the stakes
Research shows that anticipating rewards may help you be more devoted to your goal. Sure, it's a bribe of sorts, but experiment with promising yourself a mani-pedi after a week of true commitment, or a new gym outfit after two. Or put a penalty on the table: Promise to go TV-less for a week if you don't follow through. A 2012 study by the National Bureau of Economic Research found that a financial pledge is another effective incentive.
RELATED: 4 Steps to Making a Resolution That Will Actually Help You Lose Weight in 2016

Bundle your workout
You may be more likely to participate in a behavior you're not so into—such as exercising—if you combine it with an activity you really enjoy, like catching up on House of Cards. This strategy is called "temptation bundling," and a 2013 study published in Management Science suggested it works.

Reboot your stressful days
"One big problem with making stress reduction your New Year's resolution is that it's so abstract," says Markman. "You can't just vow to relax without being more specific." And since you're not about to quit your job and hightail it to a peaceful island (you aren't, right?), it's crucial to learn the tools that will make your everyday tension less toxic.

Say no to something every week
A simple "I can't, sorry" is a helpful immediate fix. Regularly overextending yourself forces you to put your own needs behind others' requests, says Pedram Shojai, an Eastern medicine expert in Orange County, Calif., and author of The Urban Monk.

Take a time-out daily
Vow to disconnect at least once a day, suggests Shojai. Close your eyes and take 10 deep breaths in your office, or crank up a soothing playlist on your commute.

Try meditation
"Meditating is like your brain's virus checker, detecting toxic stress and blocking its effects on your physical and emotional health," says Shojai. A 2013 study found that adults who were taught the basics of mindful meditation had lower levels of the stress hormone cortisol.

Reboot your energy
One 2015 U.K. study showed that the main reason people were unable to make a change was that they were too tired to focus. Here's how to get yourself juiced for a great year.

Keep a fatigue diary
Once you pinpoint the time of day you feel draggy, you can make adjustments. "For example, if you're tired in the afternoon, you need to rethink what you eat for lunch or try to drink more water, " says Holly Phillips, MD, author of The Exhaustion Breakthrough.

Make a to-don't list
After you write out your to-do list for the day, ask yourself which tasks really need to get done—and which aren't realistic or important. The latter constitute your to-don't list. Drawing a line through them "removes energy-draining clutter from your mind," says Dr. Phillips.

Pencil in bedtime
Most of us don't think of sleeping as actively doing something, so we don't plan it. "When you put it in your calendar," explains Dr. Phillips, "it becomes a priority, the same way your gym time and work meetings are priorities." Set a reminder to go off a half hour before you plan to hit the sack.

Download an app
Most of you have smart phones that are used for whatsup, whatsdown and facebook. Free apps can lend a digital hand by keeping track of your progress, texting reminders or putting you in touch with crowdsourced support. A few to try: Balanced, Coach.me and Pact.

Share your battle
Social networks function as an audience to cheer you on and offer advice. A 2013 study found that when Twitter users looking to lose weight tweeted about their goals, they shed more pounds than those who didn't; research out of Northwestern University showed that CalorieKing users who "friended" others on the site lost at least 7 percent more body weight than the less social folks.

Kick-start your day with lemon and water

Packed with antioxidants and other health benefits, a glass of water with the juice of half a lemon revitalises the body and mind. Here are 10 reasons to drink it first thing:

Kick-start your day with lemon and water

1 Supports the immune system: The juice of half a lemon in a glass of water is rich in vitamin C, which helps boost the immune system and assists the body in fighting colds and flu. Nutritionist Michele Chevalley Hedge says lemon also enhances the body’s ability to absorb iron, an important nutrient for a healthy immune system. “Vitamin C may increase non-heme iron bioavailability fourfold,” Chevalley Hedge says. “This refers to iron availability in the body from non-meat sources.”

2 Aids digestion: As lemon juice is similar in atomic structure to the stomach’s digestive juices, it has a positive effect on the gastrointestinal tract. It helps cleanse the bowel by flushing out waste more efficiently and stimulates the release of gastric juices, which aid digestion. The digestive qualities of lemon juice can also help relieve symptoms of indigestion, heartburn and bloating.

3 Repairs skin: Lemons are great for combating skin ageing, Chevalley Hedge says. The antioxidant properties help combat free radical damage, which is responsible for the symptoms of ageing. “We know that lemons are rich in vitamin C and that is really what creates collagen synthesis, which is wonderful in terms of keeping wrinkles at bay,” she says. “Vitamin C is required in the synthesis of amino acids into collagen and the job of collagen and connective tissue is to hold things tight and protect our skin tissue.”

4 Reduces appetite: Lemons contain pectin, a soluble fibre commonly found in citrus fruits. Pectin helps stave off hunger as the fibre creates a feeling of fullness, which results in the suppression of hunger cravings. By feeling fuller for longer,
you’re less likely to snack or make poor
food choices.

5 Balances pH levels: Lemons are one of the most alkalising foods for the body and a good pH level is essential as too much acidity in the body can be inflammatory. “Lemon water is very alkalising and most of us have acidic bodies,” Chevalley Hedge says. “Educated foodies still think of lemons as being acidic when they are quite alkalising.”

6 Cleanses the urinary tract: Lemon juice is a diuretic, meaning it encourages the production of urine. As a result, toxins are released at a faster rate, helping to purify the system and keep it healthy. Lemon juice can also change the pH level of the urinary tract which discourages the proliferation of bad bacteria.

7 Freshens breath: The antiseptic qualities in lemon juice help kill off bad bacteria in the mouth by acting as a disinfectant. A glass of lemon water is also a healthier morning wake-you-up than coffee. While there is no evidence-based research on lemon water’s optimal temperature, Chevalley Hedge recommends drinking it at room temperature. “Most health professionals agree room temperature is closer to your own body’s temperature and seems to calm the digestive system,” she says.

If you’re concerned about the acid harming tooth enamel, rinse your mouth with water afterwards. “You would have to drink copious amounts of lemon water to strip the enamel,” Chevalley Hedge says.

8 Protects overall health: High levels of potassium in lemons can help brain and nerve functioning and control blood pressure. Lemon water can also ward off stress and depression, which have been linked to low levels of potassium. Lemons also contain vitamin P, which improves capillary permeability and overall blood flow.

9 Promotes healing: Ascorbic acid, vitamin C, promotes wound healing in the body and is an important nutrient in maintaining healthy bones, tissue and cartilage. It also calms inflammation in the body.

“Vitamin C travels through the body, neutralising any free radicals,” Chevalley Hedge says. “Free radicals can interact with the healthy cells of the body, damaging them and their membranes and causing inflammation.”

10 Detoxifies the liver: Lemon water acts as a liver cleanser by assisting in detoxification. It purifies and stimulates the liver by encouraging the production of bile, an acid required for digestion. Lemon water can also help control excess bile flow, decrease the amount of phlegm produced by the body and assist in dissolving gallstones.

Top 5 Drinks That Help You Lose Weight

If you have decided to lose the extra pounds, then you surely know that the only way to do that is by combining workouts with a healthy, balanced and nutritious diet. However, there are some types of drinks that will speed up the fat burning and help you lose weight quicker than you normally would, and here you will find 5 of the most efficient ones:

1. Detox Juices
Detox juices are certainly your most trustworthy allies in your battle against the extra pounds – you can easily make them in your kitchen, either entirely out of fruits or vegetables or by combining these two. Citrus fruits are known to have a powerful detox capability, therefore if you are looking for foods to help you purge all the toxins that have gathered inside you over the months then you must certainly include them in your detox juice. High-fiber root foods such as ginger, carrots or apples are also highly recommended for these juices, as they are known to also support the correct functioning of your digestive tract, not to mention the wealth of antioxidants that they deliver to your body.

As you may know already, antioxidants are essential as they protect your body from the negative effects of the free radicals that can wreak havoc on your health if you allow them two. One eight ounce glass of detox juice per week will certainly keep all these problems far away from you! These juices have a double benefit – while they help your body get rid of the toxins, chemicals and all the dangerous substances that have accumulated inside your intestines, they also help you lose weight in the fastest and most natural way. One thing is for sure, though: all those who want to shed pounds yet stay healthy at the same time must go through at least one or two detox sessions throughout the course of a year.

2. Vegetable Juices
Vegetable juices, on the other hand, can also benefit your weight loss efforts in the long run and it is a known fact that the most suitable type of veggies for weight loss are the cruciferous ones. No matter if you juice them alone or you use them in conjunction with other fruits, these veggies (cabbage, kale, broccoli or cauliflower) will be your most efficient fat fighting weapon, and there is no better way to keep all the toxins away. Another notable benefit of the vegetable juices is that in addition to helping your body fight free radicals and keeping you healthy, they will also balance the hormone levels in your body and prevent the hormone disruptors from interfering with the normal hormone levels. Cruciferous veggies are very rich in natural phytonutrients that are perfect for reducing the overall amount of body fat, for reducing inflammation and controlling the blood sugar levels, for balancing the hormone levels, boosting your metabolism as well as providing a thorough general detoxification.

3. Green Tea
Green tea has been used for hundreds of years due to its numerous benefits, and weight loss is just one of them – although green tea alone will only help you lose a few pounds, it will certainly serve as a great addition to your diet in the long haul. No matter if you do not have the time or you do not like to workout on a regular basis, drinking one cup of tea per day will deliver all the antioxidants you need and it will also help you burn fat at a faster pace, by boosting the metabolism. These teas are perfect for burning more calories as well as for increasing your overall energy levels and for suppressing your appetite. As a matter of fact, this is exactly the main mechanism of action of these teas as they help you shed the extra pounds by suppressing your appetite, thus decreasing the amount of food you would normally consume on a daily basis. Green tea is very popular among the Japanese people, and it is said to also help you reduce stress and relax better.

4. Fruit Juice – Cranberry And Pear
Fruit juices are delicious, easy to prepare and very rich in nutrients, vitamins and minerals – besides this, there are literally hundreds of different fruits you can choose from and pear and cranberries are only two of the most delicious, most efficient and most sought-after ones given the fact that they contain high amounts of vitamin C. Not only will the cranberry and pear juice help you lose weight by boosting your metabolism (your body’s natural fat burning machine), but it will also increase your overall energy levels and deliver your body all the essential vitamins and proteins that it so much needs. At the same time, it is a known fact that the cranberry juice is essential for preventing various infection of the bladder, such as the infection with the E-coli bacteria. Pears, on the other hand, add magnesium, potassium as well as phosphorus to your fruit juice and they are essential for a healthy lifestyle, not to mention that they are very rich in Vitamin C and Calcium, the latter being particularly important for keeping your bones healthy and strong.

5. Black Coffee
Last, but not least, it is a known fact that if consumed with moderation, black coffee can have a plethora of health benefits – not only does it contain antioxidants that fight off free radicals and lower the risk for certain types of cancer, but it can also reduce the risk for diabetes as well as heart disease. At the same time, caffeine is perfect for boosting your metabolism and for increasing the number of calories you have burned. Be careful, though, because if you want to lose weight by relying on black coffee you will have to consume it without any milk or sugar, as any sweetener can increase its calorie count!

To conclude, these are the top 5 most efficient drinks that you should embed in your diet if you want to lose weight quickly and naturally, without resorting to any pills or supplements that may have side effects.

Erectile Dysfunction:

Many of our male clients have complained of ED as the lead cause of domestic challenges.

Below is something that could help you establish the possible cause of the challenge.

Taking On Erectile Dysfunction

Behind the scenes, a lot goes into achieving an er****on. When you're turned on, nerves fire in your brain and travel down your spinal cord to your p***s. There, muscles relax and blood flows into the blood vessels. The result, if all goes well, is a rigid p***s, ready for s*x.

Unfortunately, all does not always go well. Many diseases -- and, in some cases, their treatment -- can lead to erectile dysfunction (ED). So can injuries, lifestyle choices, and other physical factors. ED can often be treated, and finding the right cause can lead to successful treatment.

Diabetes: This chronic disease can damage the nerves and blood vessels that aid in getting an er****on. When the disease has not been well controlled over time, it can double a man's risk of er****on problems.

Kidney disease: Kidney disease can affect many of the things you need for a healthy er****on, including your hormones, blood flow to your p***s, and parts of your nervous system. It can also sap your energy level and rob you of your s*x drive. Drugs for kidney disease can also cause ED.

Neurological (nerve and brain) disorders: You can't get an er****on without help from your nervous system, and diseases that disrupt signals between your brain and your p***s can lead to ED. Such diseases include stroke, multiple sclerosis (MS), Alzheimer's disease, and Parkinson's disease.

Blood vessel diseases: Vascular diseases can block the blood vessels. That slows the flow of blood to the p***s, making an er****on difficult to get. Atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries), high blood pressure, and high cholesterol are among the most common causes of ED.

Prostate cancer: Prostate cancer doesn't cause ED, but treatments can lead to temporary or permanent erectile dysfunction.
The physical causes of ED are not only disease-related. There are many other potential causes, including:

Surgery: Surgery for both prostate cancer and bladder cancer can damage nerves and tissues necessary for an er****on. Sometimes the problem clears up, usually within 6 to 18 months. But the damage can also be permanent. If that happens, treatments exist to help restore your ability to have an er****on.

Injury: Injuries to the pelvis, bladder, spinal cord, and p***s that require surgery also can cause ED.

Hormone problems: Testosterone and other hormones fuel a man's s*x drive, and an imbalance can throw off his interest in s*x. Causes include pituitary gland tumors, kidney and liver disease, depression, and hormone treatment of prostate cancer.

Venous leak: To keep an er****on, the blood that flows into your p***s must stay in your p***s. If it flows back out too quickly -- a condition called venous leak, in which the veins in your p***s don't constrict properly -- you will lose your er****on. Both injuries and disease can cause venous leak.

To***co, alcohol, or drug use: All three can damage your blood vessels. That makes it difficult for blood to reach the p***s, which is essential for an er****on. If you have hardened arteries (arteriosclerosis), smoking will dramatically raise your risk of ED.
Prescription drugs: There are more than 200 prescription drugs that can cause ED.

Prostate enlargement: Prostate enlargement, a normal part of aging for many men, may also play a role in ED.

11 Benefits of Lemon Water You Didn’t Know About

Why lemons?
Lemons are packed like a clown car with nutrients, including vitamin C, B-complex vitamins, calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, and fiber. (Fun fact: they contain more potassium than apples or grapes!)

Because of how hard lemon juice can be on the enamel of your teeth, it’s important to dilute it with water of any temperature (though lukewarm is recommended). Drink it first thing in the morning, and wait 15 to 30 minutes to have breakfast. This will help you fully receive the benefits of lemon water, which are listed below.

11 Benefits of Lemon Water

1. Gives your immune system a boost.
Vitamin C is like our immune system’s jumper cables, and lemon juice is full of it. The level of vitamin C in your system is one of the first things to plummet when you’re stressed, which is why experts recommended popping extra vitamin C during especially stressful days.

2. Excellent source of potassium.
As already mentioned, lemons are high in potassium, which is good for heart health, as well as brain and nerve function.

3. Aids digestion.
Lemon juice not only encourages healthy digestion by loosening toxins in your digestive tract, it helps to relieve symptoms of indigestion such as heartburn, burping, and bloating.

4. Cleanses your system.
It helps flush out the toxins in your body by enhancing enzyme function, stimulating your liver.

5. Freshens your breath.
It also helps relieve toothaches and gingivitis (say wha?). Because the citric acid can erode tooth enamel, either hold off on brushing your teeth after drinking lemon water or brush your teeth before drinking it.

6. Keeps your skin blemish-free.
The antioxidants in lemon juice help to not only decrease blemishes, but wrinkles too! It can also be applied to scars and age spots to reduce their appearance, and because it’s detoxifying your blood, it will maintain your skin’s radiance.

7. Helps you lose weight.
Lemons contain pectin fiber, which assists in fighting hunger cravings.

8. Reduces inflammation.
If you drink lemon water on a regular basis, it will decrease the acidity in your body, which is where disease states occur. It removes uric acid in your joints, which is one of the main causes of inflammation.
9. Gives you an energy boost.
Lemon juice provides your body with energy when it enters your digestive tract, and it also helps reduce anxiety and depression. (Even the scent of lemons has a calming effect on your nervous system!)

10. Helps to cut out caffeine.
I didn’t believe this until I tried it, but replacing my morning coffee with a cup of hot lemon water has really done wonders! I feel refreshed, and no longer have to deal with that pesky afternoon crash. Plus, my nerves are thankful.

11. Helps fight viral infections.
Warm lemon water is the most effective way to diminish viral infections and their subsequent sore throats. Plus, with the lemon juice also boosting your immune system, you’ll simultaneously fight off the infection completely.

How much?
For those who weigh less than 65kg, squeeze half a lemon’s worth of juice into a glass of water. If over 65kg, use an entire lemon’s juice. You can of course dilute the lemon juice more, depending on your personal taste. Not only are the benefits of lemon water endless, it’s one of the most substantial yet simple changes you can make for your health.

Did you exercise this morning? if you didn't that is a clear sign you don't love yourself. ..your body and careless about your evening.
