Here are 5 first aid steps for an asthma attack:

Help the person sit upright: Sitting upright can help the person breathe easier by allowing the chest to expand more fully.

Assist with medication: If the person has an inhaler, help them use it. If the person does not have an inhaler or if their symptoms do not improve after using the inhaler, call for emergency medical help.

Loosen tight clothing: Loosen any tight clothing around the neck, chest, or waist to make breathing easier.

Stay calm: An asthma attack can be a scary experience for the person experiencing it, so staying calm can help them feel more at ease.

Monitor the person's breathing: Keep a close eye on the person's breathing and note any changes in their condition. If the person's breathing becomes rapid or shallow, call for emergency medical help right away.
