President Museveni was in Koch Goma, Nwoya District, where I opened Bukona Agro-processors sugar factory and distillery, a multi-million investment established by Mr Praviin Krekal.

He also launched the Green Fuel Uganda Project, an initiative of the company, manufacturing energy-saving stoves powered by ethanol extracted from processed cassava.

In his key note address he said "if this initiative is successful, it will be key in helping our people who grow cassava to get out of poverty. We would be able to export fuel made from cassava to other countries. Cassava residue can also be turned into animal feeds."

He later commended the community of Nwoya for working closely with the investor even when he's not a native. It is important to work harmoniously with other people irrespective of their nationality or tribe. Congratulations to the investor for this undertaking and government will support it.

Minister for Trade, Industry and Cooperatives Hon. Amelia Kyambadde has told MPs on the Trade Committee of Parliament that the Accreditation for Conformity Assessment Bill 2018 will ease assessment of goods, services and facilities in Uganda, with establishment of Conformity Assessment Bodies.

Hon. Kyambadde observes that the current total cost for accreditation by South African firm SANAS & SADCAS of Ugandan goods is at Usd11,025; but with Conformity Assessment Bodies (CABs) established in Uganda, the cost will be taken down by 20 - 30%.

25/12/2019

President Museveni accompanied by the First Lady and there family joined the faithful at Nshwerenkye Church of Uganda in Kiruhura District for Christmas service led by Rev. Meshach Kihondwa.

The president congratulated all Ugandans for making it to Christmas and coming to the close of the year. His call to Ugandans is to utilize your talents. Importantly, he urged Ugandans to use the stability the country to improve our individual income stations.

In the agriculture sector, it is increasingly clear that people are applying themselves to the fullest. The bumper sugarcane, maize, banana harvests and milk glut among others is evidence of this.

The government will now do more to support value-addition to ensure we do not just sell these products in the raw form but also diversify their by-products to deal with the issue of excess harvests. The farmers also must ensure they enforce good farming practices.

Merry Christmas. I will deliver a more elaborate report about our country in my New Year Address.

21/12/2019

We are not producing at our potential, yet we should be doing far better. We are starting to wake up, God gave us a very beautiful country with so much rain and fertile soil, but we do not know how to use them.

We are starting a comprehensive program to engage all farmers on a path of fruitful and consistent quality production.
