Failure rate: 0.8% (8 out of 1,000 people may become pregnant in the first year of use)
2️⃣. Hormonal IUDs (e.g., Mirena, Liletta, Kyleena, Skyla)
Failure rate: Ranges from 0.1% to 0.4% depending on the brand:
-Mirena/Liletta: ~0.2%
-Kyleena: ~0.2–0.4%
-Skyla: ~0.4%

IUDs are over 99% effective, making them one of the most reliable forms of reversible contraception.

𝐁𝐮𝐭 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐜𝐜𝐮𝐫, 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐧 𝐝𝐮𝐞 𝐭𝐨:
📌Expulsion (IUD falls out partially or completely, often unnoticed)
📌Improper placement
📌Insertion during undetected early pregnancy
📌Very rare perforation

This baby was born with their mothers IUD on their bum. It was sticking due to the vernix.

midwifery is a unique body of knowledge, rooted in tradition, that continues to withstand the test of time. it continues to be preserved and passed on from generation to generation of midwives. it is proven to be safe and effective for the people best served by midwives. if we lose midwifery, we lose much more than we can fathom.
