Agriculture and Trade Promotion Alliance Uganda (AGRITRADE) is the largest and most active Member-driven National Trade Promotion Organization that brings together Far

mers, Processors, Manufacturers, Service Providers, Dealers, Distributors, Traders and all related value chain enterprises involved in the main agriculture sub-sectors of Crop, Animal, Poultry, Fisheries, Forestry and Horticulture. BACKGROUND
Agriculture continues to be a powerful engine for rural and urban prosperity, economic growth and social transformation world over and especially for the developing countries where 40% - 70% of the population directly depends on farm sector for its livelihood and sustenance. In Uganda, according to the Uganda National Household Survey (UNHS) 2016/17, the bigger proportion of the working population is engaged in agriculture, forestry and fishing (65%). The sector contributed about 25% to the total GDP in 2016/17 and contributes 36% to the employment sector

Uganda’s agricultural sector presents multiple highly-profitable investment opportunities both for profit-oriented investments and partnerships. As one of the 55 member states of the African Union, Uganda has steadily picked the pace in agricultural development and was highlighted as one of the 20 leading countries in delivery on development targets of the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP). Ugandan agriculture and farmers as well as agro-industries are presently passing through a critical phase but there is no credible body to articulate its views and take up issues at the national and international level. In this context, there is a long felt need of having an umbrella body, which can act as a think tank, information bank, advocacy group, watch-dog, development catalyst, trade, technology and investments facilitator and monitoring center for the sector at national and international level. With this background, AGRITRADE was created, after prolonged consultations and global studies and promises to address all the above concerns and needs of the agribusiness sector and unleash the potential towards spurning economic growth in the sector and Uganda as a whole.
