Every six death in the world is due to cancer making it the second leading cause of death second to cardiovascular, in Uganda, 32,617 people are diagnosed and 21,000 dies yearly as a result of late diagnosis and delay in starting proper treatment.
What is cancer?
It is simply a disease where cells grows and multiply out of control and makes it hard for the body to function the way it should.
Cancer cells can also move to other body parts of the body and grow.
Common types of cancer
The type of cancer is named after the body parts where it start. Eg
Cervical cancer, prostate cancer, breast cancer lung cancer, liver cancer, blood cancer and many more.
Most cancer form tumor, a tumor is a swelling or lump but others do not form tumor like Leukemia.
Common signs and symptoms of cancer
Swelling eg on breast, abdomen, neck, jaws, te**es, tummy etc
Bleeding e.g. from the private parts, bloody urine, coughing blood or from the gum and nose.
Difficulties in passing urine
Difficulty in eating or swallowing.
Skin changes.
Weight lost without trying to loose weight.
Changes in bowl movement such as diarrhea or constipation for more than six weeks.
Fatigue/feeling tired for more than two weeks.
Fever.
Abdominal discharge.
Having this signs is not a confirmation that you have cancer but you have them, you are required do cancer screening for confirmation.
