Roswell Women and Children’s Hospital implemented and continues to facilitate a standardized, multi-disciplinary antenatal education program aimed at optimizing maternal and neonatal outcomes.
The sessions are structured to address the clinical, psychological, and social dimensions of the perinatal period, and to serve as a critical adjunct to routine clinical assessments.
At its core, the classes seek to resolve the disconnect that often exists between routine clinical consultations and the multifaceted realities of the gestational period.
The curriculum is facilitated by senior medical staff and prioritizes evidence-based preparation. During these sessions, we move beyond superficial advice, and instead engage in deep-dives into obstetric physiology, the mechanics of labor, and the critical nuances of postpartum recovery.
A significant portion of the discussion is dedicated to the systematic debunking of prevalent medical myths and cultural misconceptions. This process is vital for risk mitigation, as it ensures that expectant mothers can distinguish between normal physiological changes and "red flag" symptoms that require immediate clinical intervention.
The program also emphasizes the medical necessity of partner involvement. Integrating partners into the educational process creates a more robust domestic support system, which has been clinically shown to reduce maternal anxiety and improve adherence to prenatal care protocols.
The sessions provide partners with the technical knowledge required to act as informed advocates and support providers during labor and the subsequent neonatal transition.
These classes are free of charge.
