In the seminar, fellows engaged in a personal check-in, sharing their thoughts on a poem and discussing their experiences. This interactive session created a supportive environment where fellows shared both positive and negative experiences, fostering solidarity within the group.

The lead curator, Mpindi Abaas, and faculty member, Angelo Izama Page, emphasized the evolving craft of storytelling and its potential to shape perceptions about Africa.

Over the weekend, the Institute held a virtual seminar for the Griots Fellows. The seminar focused on training fellows in effective storytelling, emphasizing the need to reshape narratives surrounding African identity.

Awel Uwihanganye highlighted the impact of historical injustices on current perceptions and stereotypes of African identity, and outlined three foundational pillars for the institute: storytelling and narrative shaping, creating platforms for African leaders, and building a community of ethical leaders.

He stressed the importance of storytelling in fostering connections and shaping identities, advocating for local platforms to facilitate global conversations about Africa.

Brian Oduti is an Associate Consultant at The Muyi Group, where he supports clients on impact strategy, impact investment, and ESG/corporate sustainability. His prior consulting work focused on legal and/or policy assessments on not-for-profit law, philanthropy, and social movement building, covering multiple jurisdictions in the global south that face restricted civic space.

Saxon Ssekitooleko is a Ugandan energy professional and engineer with a strong footing in both the oil & gas and renewable energy sectors. He currently serves as a Well Completions Supervisor at TotalEnergies E&P Uganda, contributing to the country’s first oil development under the Tilenga Project.

Roland Byagaba is a Ugandan ICT professional and entrepreneur. He runs Muwado — an African Storytelling Platform, among other projects at BadidiTech, his ICT company.

KingDavid Ayo-Loto is a multi-disciplinary creative and marketing executive with a unique blend of experience across the retail and tech industries. He holds a law degree from Obafemi Awolowo University and brings a sharp analytical mindset to his creative and strategic work.

Chelsea Olga works in financial supervision at the Bank of Uganda, where she contributes to the oversight of Non-Bank Financial Institutions. She’s interested in how regulation, systems, and structure shape everyday opportunity and how voices like hers can help reimagine them.

Fiona Mbabazi is an accomplished communications specialist and journalist with over 15 years of experience in media and strategic communication. She is passionate about business news, youth affairs, human rights, climate change, and politics.

Patience Kiden Naamanya is a Development Professional with eight years of experience amplifying the voices of marginalized communities across Africa. She currently supports the European Initiative for Gender Inclusive Democracy in implementing programs that ensure the voices of Ugandan Women shape democratic processes and inform national policy dialogue.

Gabriel Karsan is a visionary Tanzanian digital policy strategist and civic-tech innovator dedicated to bridging digital divides through inclusive governance, youth empowerment, and ethical technology.

KawooyaDickson is the Acting General Counsel, Legal & Company Secretary, Ecobank Uganda. He is a seasoned legal and governance professional with over eight years of experience supporting boards, executive teams, and financial institutions across East Africa.

Elsa Mirembe is a learning and development specialist at PostBank Uganda and a volunteer with the Community Altruism Fraternity (CAF). When Elsa is not sparking ideas that help people grow, you will likely find her swimming or shooting hoops - because life's better with a splash and slam dunk.

Derrick ERNEST Muganga is an advocate of the High Court of Uganda and an associate at Cumberland Advocates. Derrick specializes in commercial law, corporate advisory, regulatory, and compliance. He combines his robust knowledge in law, dispute resolution, entrepreneurship with incisive analysis and robust social networks to create new solutions and strategies for complex problems.

Naïssa Umutoni Karekezi, EMBA is a business development and leadership sourcing supervisor at African Management Institute. Her professional impact demonstrates transformation at scale. She has successfully supervised the recruitment of over 3,800 participants for youth employment programs, and managed the selection of 240 Growth Guides across 15 districts for MasterCard Foundation initiatives in Rwanda.

Loise Machira is the director of Green Energy Nest, the founder of Tizi Talks, and a social impact and wellness advocate. In 2020, she led a campaign that raised $20,000 for families facing eviction in Kenya, a pivotal moment that inspired the launch of Moriah Impact Collective, a platform connecting investors and donors to grassroots solutions and meaningful action.

Matthew Katamba K. is a finance and investment professional with experience in investment banking, financial audit, corporate finance, accounting, financial management, and treasury. He has worked with leading institutions including PwC Uganda, Equity Bank Uganda, and Agri Exim
Limited. Currently, he serves as the Corporate Credit Manager at Absa Bank Uganda.

Catherine Nankabirwa is a client success and management professional. Catherine applies systems thinking, behavioral design, and storytelling to support stakeholder engagement, compliance, and user adoption across sustainability projects and tech-driven programs. Her work has reached over 300 stakeholders through training, implementation, and cross-sector collaboration.

Dr Kamatamu Amanda Mbonye is a UK-trained cardiologist specializing in advanced cardiac imaging and cardiovascular disease prevention. She is currently undertaking advanced cardiology training at Barts Heart Centre in London. Dr. Mbonye is also the founder and CEO of Revive Wellness Uganda, a holistic health and wellness centre in Kampala that integrates medical expertise with lifestyle-based interventions to tackle non-communicable diseases such as heart disease. Her clinical and leadership work bridges the gap between cutting-edge medicine and community-driven health solutions across East Africa.

Alaa El Din Mohamed is a finance professional at the Export Development Bank of Egypt, spearheading innovative projects in sustainable banking, green finance, and financial inclusion and economic development finance.

He has worked with the African Development Bank | European Investment Bank | Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) | Black Sea Trade and Development Bank (BSTDB) | and Emirates NBD.

Mohamed is a Research Fellow and Visiting Scholar at the American University in Cairo (AUC) and the British University in Egypt (BUE), and is a Research Associate
at Monash University, Australia.

Christine Isimbi is a purpose-driven professional working at the intersection of economic development and systems transformation. In her role as Associate, Economic Transformation at TBI Rwanda, she supports government efforts to design and implement people-centered strategies that accelerate inclusive growth.

Christine is passionate about building systems that work—whether in public policy, innovation, or community spaces. Her experience spans fintech, strategic advisory, and grassroots initiatives, all tied together by a commitment to real-world impact. She is motivated by a simple but powerful idea: small, intentional actions, sustained over time, can lead to lasting and meaningful change.

Musiime Lutgard

Now shaping inclusive nutrition systems across Uganda, Lutgard is a Ugandan nutritionist, public health specialist, and disability inclusion advocate whose work bridges science, policy, and practice.

With over a decade of experience, she has led transformative efforts in school feeding, nutrition therapy, and disability-inclusive nutrition. Lutgard currently serves as Nutrition Technical Officer at SPOON Foundation, championing better nutrition for children with feeding difficulties, and leads the technical team at Nutrition Garage, a corporate wellness hub promoting lifestyle-driven health solutions.

An educator and strategist at heart, she has developed school feeding models, corporate wellness programs, and inclusive nutrition frameworks that have reached hundreds through both community training and digital platforms. Her work has also contributed to outbreak investigations through the MAKSPH Field Epidemiology Training Program.

She is the author of Differently Abled Nutrition, a practical guide that equips caregivers of children with disabilities to feed their children better, more safely, and efficiently.

Lutgard holds a Master’s in Public Health from Makerere University and remains committed to building an inclusive, health-conscious society, one community at a time

Magezi Arafat is the Chief Technology Officer at Mobiklinic, a health-tech company transforming last-mile healthcare delivery in Uganda and Kenya.

With a strong background in software engineering and product development, Arafat leads the company's technology strategy, driving the design and implementation of mobile and web-based tools that empower community health workers and improve healthcare delivery in underserved areas.

Kirunga Ignatious serves as the Senior Manager, Commercial at American Tower, where he leads strategic initiatives
that drive commercial performance, optimize revenue streams, financial modelling, and foster
sustainable business growth.

Previously, he built a strong foundation in financial markets, corporate and investment banking at Uganda’s
largest financial institution.

His specialization includes foreign exchange, derivatives, money markets, investment advisory, and client/portfolio management.

In addition, he is the Chief Investment Officer (CIO) at Level Africa, where he oversees investment strategy, financial advisory and literacy, capital allocation, and portfolio management.

He is deeply committed to identifying high-impact investment opportunities that support sustainable
