At Cheshire Services Uganda, we are committed to addressing the deep-rooted marginalisation experienced by Children with Disabilities in humanitarian settings.

That’s why we are working alongside parents and caregivers through the formation and strengthening of Peer Parents’ Groups. These groups serve as safe spaces for solidarity, mutual learning, emotional and practical support among families.

Through regular disability management trainings, group savings initiatives, counselling, experience sharing and facilitation for formal recognition by local leaders and service providers, the groups are helping to build resilience at both household and community levels.

They also serve as crucial linkages between families and essential services, enhancing access to care, amplifying advocacy efforts and promoting inclusive education for Children with Disabilities in both refugee and host communities.

Past and future vulnerability are intimately linked, and poverty, exclusion and poor-quality services hinder a child’s ability to thrive and lead a full life. It is therefore extremely important that the risks that a child with a disability face are addressed when they are young.
