Celebrating St. Francis Day at St. Francis Hospital Nsambya

Today, we came together as a hospital family to celebrate St. Francis Day with gratitude and joy. The day was marked by a very special moment the blessing of our new CT Scan and Digital X-Ray machines, which are now fully functional and ready to serve our patients.

We began with a solemn Holy Mass, where we offered prayers of thanksgiving for the gift of life, healing, and service.

Our different departments made heartfelt offertory contributions, reflecting our unity and shared mission of compassionate healthcare.

This milestone is not just about advanced technology, it is a commitment to excellence in patient care and a step forward in our mission to heal with faith, love, and professionalism. As we honor the spirit of St. Francis, we continue to serve our community with dedication and Compassion.

Big News at

Our new Digital X-Ray Machine has been installed, thoroughly tested, and is now ready to serve patients. This is a significant step forward in delivering faster, safer, and clearer diagnostics.

From delivery to installation, our teams worked tirelessly to ensure every detail was handled with precision. Before its launch, the machine underwent rigorous testing to guarantee accuracy, safety, and efficiency.

Empowering Young Lives Through Sickle Cell Awareness

Nsambya Hospital, in partnership with the Uganda Sickle Cell Rescue Foundation, recently hosted the Youth Sickle Cell Fellowship, a unique gathering that brought together young sickle cell warriors, their families, and health experts. The fellowship created a safe space for participants to learn, share experiences, and gain vital skills to help them navigate the challenges of living with sickle cell disease.

At the heart of the event was a simple but powerful message: early screening saves lives. Sickle cell disease remains one of the most common inherited blood disorders in Uganda, yet many people remain unaware of their status. Knowing whether you carry the sickle cell trait or have the disease is the first step toward making informed health decisions, planning for the future, and accessing the care you need.

Through open conversations, interactive sessions, and expert guidance, the fellowship emphasized the importance of awareness, prevention, and long-term care. Participants were reminded that sickle cell warriors are not alone; with the right support networks and medical attention, they can live healthier and more empowered lives.

Nsambya Hospital continues to champion initiatives that bring health education and services closer to the community. We encourage everyone to take a proactive step, get screened today. Awareness is not just knowledge; it is the foundation of prevention and better care for yourself and your family.

Global Surgery in Focus

We are delighted to share that our Head of Surgery, Dr. Francis Basimbe, is taking part in the prestigious Future Faces Global Surgery Fellowship 2025 at the Virtual Reality in Medicine and Surgery (VRIMS) Lab.

This fellowship is more than an academic milestone. It represents the future of healthcare in Uganda and beyond. By training in Extended Reality (XR) technologies for surgery, Dr. Basimbe is learning to integrate virtual and augmented reality into surgical planning, training, and patient care.

This advancement is important because it enhances precision and safety in complex surgical procedures. It also transforms how surgeons are trained by offering hands-on experience in virtual environments. Most importantly, it ensures that our patients benefit from the latest global innovations right here at Nsambya Hospital.

This step strengthens our commitment to delivering innovative, world-class, and patient-centered care.
