About Uganda Kidney Psychosocial Support Organization (UKPSSO):
Uganda Kidney Psychosocial Support Organization is a Non-Governmental Organization fully registered and established under the laws of the Republic of Uganda and it is anchored to Ministry of Health. The primary beneficiaries of Uganda Kidney Psychosocial Support Organization’s service delivery are vulnerable children, adults and families affected by the kidney condition. Kidney disease is one of the commonest non communicable illnesses that we currently see in our health care system. Because of the duration of the illness, multiple complications associated with the disease, high cost of treatment, kidney patients and their families suffer a lot of psychological, social and economic trauma. Uganda Kidney Psychosocial Support Organisation is therefore an inbuilt support for the patients and their families to obtain meaningful psychosocial support while undergoing different kinds of treatment which are delivered by the medical support system. Uganda Kidney Psychosocial Support Organisation supports the existing health care system to have a multidisciplinary care approach for kidney failure patients and their families. Psychosocial support mainstreaming is the face of Uganda Kidney Psychosocial Support Organisation. Through participatory methodologies, Uganda Kidney Psychosocial Support Organisation generated a strategic plan and a program proposal covering both the technical and financial aspects and they are technically well engineered with a goal, objectives, workable and logical flow of strategies, linked activities, well defined systems and results with a well-constructed out modest budget. The program proposal and strategic plan are shared upon request. Uganda Kidney Psychosocial Support Organisation therefore appeals for global connections, linkages and strategic networks in order to create an improved care and meaningful support for kidney failure patients, kidney transplantees and their families at Health Renal Unit, Family and Community levels. Objectives:
Uganda Kidney Psychosocial Support Organization strives to achieve 4 objectives:

Increased awareness about the preventive and curative aspects of kidney diseases. Enhanced delivery of sustainable kidney psychosocial support interventions. Enhanced capacity of families, technical Staff and institutional management structures to deliver quality services

Enhanced promotion of research in kidney psychosocial support management

Dear Nalongo Juliet Hitimana, we already miss you. You inspired many of us and we sincerely admit that the resilience many of us have did not fall from trees, but it was nurtured and shaped by Heroines like you. When the bar of kidney health was still low in Uganda, you dearly nursed your husband all through peritoneal dialysis (UKPSSO late Board Chairperson Dr. Charles Hitimana) and even fearlessly gave him your precious kidney in your late 50s. You have been a Mentor, role model and Coach to many of us. A lot has definitely fallen apart with your demise not to mention Papa Dr. Charles Hitimana. Heavenly Father, pliz hold up the centre to still firmly hold in Jesus"s name. Rest in peace UKPSSO Heroine. Clear skies and green Heavens dear Maama.

The Nurse of the Year 2023 is already awarded, but I want to nominate *My Nurse of the year 2024 in advance. She is the Dialysis Nursing Team at Mulago hospital.* These ladies and men are some of the most hard-working and professional Ugandans you may ever come across. At their desks by midnight, they let the first set of over 30 patients in around 1 am, settle them down, and at about 2 am, start the machines one by one, with speed, empathy, and skill all combined. It is a forest of machines here with a nurse going from one to the next until all are connected and in the monitoring phase. About 8 a.m., they begin round two and then the third of these 4 hour rounds Monday to Saturday. It is incredible what this group of nurses do. Please join me to thank and appreciate Nursing Officers: Moses Odongo, Namugga Annie, Waiswa..

Thank you so much dear Prof D.K Agarwal for travelling all the way from New Delhi India to make follow up on our dear kidney transplant recipients. The over 100 kidney transplant recipients and their donors you handled do not take your gesture of affection for granted and not even us as an institution. Thank you so much dear Papa for the literature, capacity building session and all forms of support to us as an institution. We are so grateful to you dear Papa and Apollo hospital New Delhi India.

In Australia arleady taking part in the world transplant recipients and donors games!!!! Raising the Ugandan banner of kidney care in Uganda!!! Our kidney transplant recipients and donors representing Uganda in Australia for the World Transplant Games. We competed in athletics, football, table tennis, cycling, and darts. We won three gold medals and one bronze medal! We are grateful to the Almighty God and everyone who gave us a hand to celebrate the gift of life. Our participation in the global games for transplant recipients and donors is a demonstration of the fact that there's more potential to be unleashed following fragility associated with dialysis prior to transplant and the transplant itself. Ebenezer!!!
