Dear All, At Kagando Hospital all gatherings start and end with a prayer: at one meeting, I remember part of the concluding prayer ran “…and we pray for Sr. Rita who is always here and there doing this and that and we pray she will continue to do this…” Ha well, for better or worse, I’m continuing! When I retired from nursing and reduced my time at Kagando, from three months twice yearly to 4weeks twice yearly, I worried how I would manage to fit all that needed doing in such a short time....

Technology has a habit of surprising you! This came up as a ‘memory’ from 7yrs ago. At my age I grow increasingly glad of these prompted memories😄 The video was made by Sandra Webb a lovely, generous lady, whom I’ve yet to meet, but both she and her family members have, over many years, supported the Rwenzori Community with wonderful parcels full of knitwear, toys, shoes, handmade dresses, school uniforms and much more....

Rwenzori Women for Health, together with staff from Kagando Hospital, have now visited all the Camps. There were 5 initially but two merged making it much easier to reach. As with the other Camps, the RWFH team took nails and iron sheets for the temporary latrines as well as safe water tablets, cassava flour, reusable menstrual pads, cups and plates, and other basic every day items that we take forgranted, but give such relief....

Thank You Donors 💕🌟 When there’s hunger and barely any food to eat, and the dirty river water can make you sick when you drink it; when you are worried that you have no more clothe to tear up for use as sanitary pads and are resorting to using banana leaves, when you’re sharing a pit latrine with no privacy other than some sticks with banana leaves attached…when all dignity is gone and you have lost all, the tomorrows look bleak… it lifts the spirit knowing someone does care....

BUGHUNGU CAMP Over the past years many of us have seen on TV or social media the shocking disturbing images of displaced people living in Camps. This happens at time of war, civil unrest, natural disasters. In my mind that is what I understood a Camp to be. Until in March 2022 when rebels from DRC had attacked villages quite near the Ugandan border (c.40 minutes from the hospital.) Over 3000 refugees had crossed the border and I was told they hadn’t eaten for three days....

These terrible floods have not made International News... they affected hundreds rather then thousands of people...it's still human suffering All photos have been sent to me by people from the Kagando Community The Rwenzori Mountains in Uganda are majestic but they can also bring great hardship. An area where poverty is raw, where reliance on the dry and wet seasons, indicating the time for planting or harvesting of crops, is vital for the survival of many families....

Dear All, I have to remember that I’m no longer working at Kagando Hospital for 3 months at a time, but rather for around 3 weeks & as one gets older one gets slower….so the answer was to cram in as much as I could, hope for the best & catch up on sleep when it’s job done ! The main focus of this trip was the health screening programme....
