Biosecurity

Biosecurity refers to procedures used to prevent the introduction and spread of disease-causing organisms in poultry flocks.

Routine biosecurity measures to maintain the poultry farm are discussed as follows. Farm workers should wear neat and clean clothes, footbath and boots. Hand sanitizer that contains strongest disinfectant should be used prior to house entry and upon exit. Farm workers should not entertain or contact with outside farm birds

Mycotoxins

Very many farms at time blame breeders or concentrate sellers of giving them poor quality commodities yet the problem is with other feedstuffs.
Mycotoxins, which can be present in animal feedstuffs, can have serious negative effects on animal health.

Mycotoxins are produced by molds, which are filamentous fungi that frequently contaminate grains and improperly stored feeds.Even with excellent management, low levels of mycotoxins may exist in poultry feed.
Aflatoxins is one of the major type of mycotoxins that is being produced from grains such as maize . Aflatoxins are produced by molds of Aspergillus species before harvest and in storage.

symptoms include
-Signs of mould in poultry feedstuff
-Reduced feed intake in poultry
-Paralysis or incoordination.
-Enteritis and diarrhoea (wet litter)
-Decreased fertility and hatchability (parent stocks)
-Reduced egg production and poor eggshell quality.

Treatment and prevention
-Remove toxic feed and replace with unadulterated feed.
-Treat concurrent disease to alleviate disease interactions.
-Correct substandard management practices.
-Provide supportive care with vitamins, trace minerals, and increased dietary protein.
