Kiwoko Hospital

Kiwoko Hospital Kiwoko Hospital is a not-for-profit mission Hospital in rural Uganda. "We treat, Jesus heals"

In 1988 a young Irish Physician found himself at the scene of devastation of two civil wars, surrounded by evidence of recent genocide and the despair of people robbed of the means of rebuilding their lives. The beginning was humble - a clinic under a tree - but the seed was soon to grow and gradually, a modern hospital took shape. (Ian Clarke tells this dramatically in his book, 'The man with the key has gone').

Kiwoko Chase 2025: Fundraising for a CT scan machine

Every coin, every penny counts. The search is on Being a community hospital we shall be reaching out to the various stakeholders within the community to join us in this cause.

Last Sunday, we fellowshipped at Voice of Truth ministries, under the leadership of Pastor Magino. We had the opportunity to speak to the church about the ongoing fundraising for the CT scan and called out to everyone in their capacity to support the hospital! We also sold some T-shirts to the people gathered.

Thank you to Voice of Truth ministries for receiving and hosting us!

Last Thursday was a public holiday, Independence Day for Uganda. The Bishop was visiting Christians in Butalangu village and churches under St. Johnโ€™s Parish. St. Lukeโ€™s chapel, within Kiwoko Hospital, is one of these churches. The organizing committee of the Kiwoko Chase event spent some good time with the Bishop and the Christians, explaining what a CT-scan machine is and what its significance means for the community. The Bishop pledged his support and asked Christians to join Kiwoko Hospital in the fundraising campaign for the CT-scan machine.

KIWOKO CHASE 2025: "Scan for Life" ๐Ÿฉบโค๏ธ

Earlier this week, we introduced Kiwoko Chase 2025. We are on a mission to improve healthcare in the rural areas of Uganda, with the goal of raising funds for a CT scan machine for Kiwoko Hospital.

BUT WHY... Why does this matter?
1) Early Detection Saves Lives: A CT scan helps doctors diagnose conditions like cancer, heart disease, and trauma faster and more accurately.
2) Limited Access: Many Ugandans, especially in the rural areas, struggle to access advanced imaging technology. Our largest category of referrals out to Kampala is for CT Scan services โ€“ this machine will change that.
3) Better Care for Patients: With this equipment, healthcare providers can offer quicker, more precise treatments, improving outcomes for patients across Nakaseke, Nakasongola, Luwero and beyond!
4) And we could give more reasons....!

THE BLESSING OF THE HOSPITAL THEATRE

In February 2024, we embarked on the Theatre Construction and Refurbishment project and in January 2025, the construction phase was complete! In April 2025, we started on the refurbishment of the old theatre, and by the end of June, most of the works were done.

This September, during his visit, the Bishop took time to bless the completed Theatre Building. In addition, he blessed the surgeons, anaesthetic officers, theatre assistants, and the nurses. And, he also blessed our patients and prayed for successful operations and speedy recoveries.

Our 6-room theatre, which includes two rooms dedicated to maternity cases, an endoscopy room and a dirty theatre, is now fully operational.

A huge appreciation to the people who funded this project: The Friend Family, Medical Mission Network, Echo Health Services, and all the other partners. Thank you so much!

THE OFFICIAL LAUNCH OF THE HIGH DEPENDENCE UNIT

Psalm 127:1 โ€˜Except the Lord build a house, they labour in vain that build itโ€™. This was our prayer as we officially launched operations in the High Dependence Unit last Thursday.

In addition to the HDU, the ward (formerly Male Ward) has been repurposed to have 5 self-contained patient rooms and 12 semi-self contained beds that will be used by patients who would like more privacy and are able to pay for the service.

The ceremony, which was presided over by Bishop Wilson Kisekka, the 4th Bishop of Luwero Diocese, also had other guests in attendance including Archbishops from the different parishes in Luwero, the District Health Officer, the Town Council Health Coordinator, friends and staff of the hospital and other community members.

We thank the Lord for adding us yet another milestone that will enable Kiwoko Hospital to extend quality and affordable medical care to the people of Luwero, Nakaseke and Nakasongola.

We truly thank our funders and supporters for all the help theyโ€™ve provided to us during this process. For HDU, we particularly thank Hilfe fur Kiwoko, the major donor, and everyone who supported the Kiwoko Chase 2023. For the refurbishment we are thankful to Three Oaks Trust and also received some money from the government PHC.

THE BISHOPโ€™S PASTORAL VISIT

Last Thursday, 11th September 2005, the Bishop of Luwero Diocese, RT. Rev. Wilson Kisekka visited Kiwoko Hospital.

In order to improve health service delivery in Nakaseke district, Kiwoko Hospital is mandated to conduct quarterly support supervision among UPMB lower facilities to ensure compliance with Ministry of Health stipulated standard guidelines.

A standard electronic checklist is used, and this requires observation, conducting interviews, and reviewing different medical records. The audit findings are thereafter reviewed with recommendations and follow-up actions.

Last financial year, Kiwoko Hospital team visited three health centres, including Bukatire Health Centre, Kireka Health Centre, and Namusaale Health Centre.

GOOD SAMARITAN FUND

Khalid had been sickly since November 2024. His mother has visited several clinics, but his condition didnโ€™t improve. In December, she decided to take him to a major hospital in Nakasongola. But Khalid only felt better for a few days before he started displaying the same symptoms; body weakness, high temperature, and passing blood in stool and vomit. He was taken back to the hospital in Nakasongola, and this time, he received blood transfusion because his haemoglobin had dropped very low. The health workers there suspected he had Sickle Cell Disease but a blood test revealed otherwise.

Khalidโ€™s mother was advised to visit Kiwoko Hospital for further management. Upon arrival at Kiwoko Hospital, Khalid was diagnosed with complicated malaria, including blackwater fever, severe anaemia, hyperpyrexia (very high fever), upper GI bleeding and acute gastritis. He was immediately admitted to the paediatric ward for treatment and monitoring.

Five days later, Khalidโ€™s bright face showed up again after a very long time. His mother was overjoyed to see her child return to his happy ways. Khalid was now running around the hospital and even attending morning devotion prayers with the staff and students.

Unfortunately Khalidโ€™s father did not return to the hospital after admission. His phones eventually became unreachable when it was time to clear the bills. Khalidโ€™s mother became very worried. The KH customer care team got involved, and after assessing the situation, the KH Good Samaritan fund was used to clear Khalidโ€™s medical bill, and he was able to return home.

We are thankful to those who support the hospital, including the Good Samaritan Fund. This enables care to be given to those who need it, but otherwise, financially, would not be able to avail of it.
