*I posted earlier that brushing at bedtime is more important than the one done in the morning and only one person asked me why. Even though you didn’t ask, I’m going to tell you anyway 😃😃*

✏️Reduce Plaque Buildup: Throughout the day, plaque accumulates on the teeth due to eating and drinking. Brushing before bed helps remove this plaque and prevent it from hardening into tartar, which is much more difficult to remove.

✏️Decrease Bacteria: The mouth has less saliva flow at night, which normally helps to wash away food particles and reduce the growth of bacteria. Brushing before sleeping reduces the amount of food and bacteria left in the mouth that can multiply overnight.

✏️Prevent Tooth Decay and Gum Disease: By removing food particles and plaque before they have a chance to cause harm overnight, you reduce the risk of cavities and gum disease.

✏️Freshen Breath: Brushing at night also helps keep your breath fresher by removing the bacteria and food particles that can cause bad breath.
Brushing at night will significantly reduce that mouth odor we often wake up to.

So continue to brush twice daily, placing the most importance on doing so before bedtime.

Dear 💕great people,

*Did You Know?*

✍️Caesarean is the only surgery where seven layers of tissue are opened and the mother is expected to stand up six hours later, taking responsibility for one more person, not to mention the intense uterus contractions, product of the Stimulation of mammary glands, release of oxytocin... etc.

*If you're a mother via , you're stronger than you think. Be proud of yourself. ❤️*

*C-SECTION: TIPS FOR QUICK RECOVERY*

Childbirth is an exciting time. You finally get to meet the baby who’s been growing inside of you for the last nine months.
Yet having a baby can also be taxing to your body, especially if you’ve had a cesarean delivery (C-section). You’ll need more time to recover than you would after a routine vaginal delivery.

Here are four suggestions to speed up your recovery so you can spend less time sore and tired, and more time bonding with your new baby.

*1. Get plenty of rest*

A C-section is major surgery. Just like with any surgery, your body needs time to heal afterward. Expect to stay in the hospital for three to four days after your delivery (longer if there are complications), and give your body up to *six weeks* to fully heal.

That’s easier said than done. It’s hard to crawl into bed for hours on end when you have a baby who is demanding lots of attention.
You’ve probably heard the advice from well-meaning friends and relatives: “Rest whenever your baby rests.” They’re right. Try to sleep whenever your baby naps.

Ask those friends and relatives for help with diaper changes and housework so you can lie down when possible. Even a few minutes of rest here and there throughout the day can help.

*2. Baby your body*

Take extra care in getting around while you heal.
☘️Avoid going up and down stairs as much as you can. Keep everything you need, like diaper changing supplies and food, close to you so that you don’t have to get up too often.

☘️Don’t lift anything heavier than your baby. Ask for help from your spouse or a friend or family member.

☘️Whenever you have to sneeze or cough, hold your abdomen to protect the incision site.
It could take up to eight weeks for you to get back into your normal routine. Ask your doctor when it’s fine to exercise, go back to work, and drive.

☘️Also wait to have s*x or use tampons until your doctor gives you the green light.

☘️Avoid strenuous exercise, but do take gentle walks as often as you can. The movement will help your body heal and prevent constipation and blood clots. Plus, walks are a great way to introduce your baby to the world.

☘️Just as you take care of your physical heal

Happening live in Kigali Rwanda in celebration of World Malaria day.

It was interesting to hear that Cape Verde HAS ZERO MALARIA,

Rwanda is also among the countries with drastic reduction in malaria prevalence, through implementing various interventions like the use of drones for spraying high breed areas for malaria countrywide, indoor spraying, countrywide distribution of mosquito nets and the use of community health workers among others.

On the other hand, it was sad to hear that Uganda is one of the African countries with the highest prevalence of malaria, though steadily progressing in the right direction

*Let’s kick malaria out of Africa*

Day 04 of the 08th Pan African Malaria conference is ongoing at the Kigali convention center bringing together over 1000 delegates from across the world

The development of resistance to drugs poses one of the greatest threats to malaria control and results in increased malaria morbidity and mortality.

Resistance to currently available antimalarial drugs has been confirmed in only two of the four human malaria parasite species, Plasmodium falciparum and P. vivax.

*Need to review our malaria prevention and management strategies and protocols*

Uganda is in the red zone due to high prevalence of malaria 🤨

*Weight loss challenge monitoring Webinar*
✍🏻One major and possibly most important behavioral interventional strategy for weight management and lifestyle change is self-monitoring.

✍🏻 Behavioral interventions are a central aspect in treatments to promote lifestyle changes that lead to weight-loss, prevent weight gain or weight regain and improve physical fitness. ✍🏻In the past, self-monitoring has unfortunately been one of the least popular techniques for those in weight management programs, and in some cases it is even thought of as a punishment.

✍🏻 Because self-monitoring is critical for success with lifestyle changes, it is important to look at the various self monitoring techniques.

*World Breastfeeding Week: 01st to 07th Aug 2023)* ✅ *A well and adequately breast fed baby is a healthy, happy playful baby.*
🫵Breastfeeding by far is an unequalled, unmatched way of providing ideal nutrition for the healthy growth and development of infants.
🫵Breast feeding also plays a vital role in the reproductive process with key implications for the health of mothers and the baby.
🫵A well and adequately breast fed baby is a healthy, happy playful baby.
🫵Major, global review of evidence has shown that, on a population basis, exclusive breastfeeding for 6 months is the optimal way of feeding infants.
🫵Thereafter infants should be weaned and receive complementary foods with continued breastfeeding up to 2 years of age or beyond

*World Breastfeeding Week: 01st to 07th Aug 2023* 🫵 *TIPS FOR USING BREASTFEEDING TO DELAY OVULATION*
1 ● Practice unrestricted breastfeeding

Do this without regard to schedules.
Usually, six to eight breastfeedings a day will suppress ovulation.

2 ● Don’t train your baby to sleep through the night.

(This is because, the milk-making hormones that suppress ovulation are highest between 1 a.m. and 6 a.m.)

So, nighttime nursing is important to the suppression of fertility.

3 ● Sleeping with your baby facilitates unrestricted feeding at night.

4 ● All of baby’s sucking should be at the breast, for comfort as well as food. Avoid the use of supplemental bottles and pacifiers.

5 ● Delay the introduction of solid foods until age six months or later. Solids should provide additional nutrition, not substitute for breastfeedings.

*Happy World Breastfeeding Week: 01st to 07th Aug 2023* ✍🏻 *What is a healthy diet for breastfeeding babies and young children?*
✅From birth to 6 months of age, feed babies exclusively with breast milk (i.e. give them no other food or drink) and feed them on demand (i.e. as often as they want, day and night)*.

✅At 6 months of age, introduce a variety of safe and nutritious foods to complement breastfeeding, and continue to breastfeed until babies are 2 years of age or beyond.

*Do not add salt or sugars to foods for babies and young children*

🫵It's World Breastfeeding Week!: 01st to 07th Aug 2023

*Theme:* Enabling Breastfeeding: making a difference for working class parents

*Let's make breastfeeding and work,work!*

💪Let's encourage and promote breastfeeding.
✍🏻Yes, breastfeeding is demanding and even more for working-class mothers but it is worth the sacrifice.
✅Encourage breastfeeding
✅Advocate for exclusive breastfeeding
✍🏻Employers can encourage working mothers to breastfeed exclusively by;
🔵Creating spaces where mothers can breastfeed or express milk at work
🔵Allowing for breaks between work to enable mothers to breastfeed.

*Is it safe to continue breastfeeding if you are pregnant with another child?*
👉Generally, it's safe to continue breast-feeding while pregnant as long as you're careful about eating a healthy diet and drinking plenty of fluids. 👉However, breast-feeding can trigger mild uterine contractions.
👉Although these contractions aren't a concern during an uncomplicated pregnancy, your health care provider might discourage breast-feeding while pregnant if you're at risk for preterm labor. 👋Happy World Breastfeeding Week & New month💃

5️⃣ *breastfeeding facts for mothers:*
🤱🏽Your body is ready to breastfeed from the moment your baby is born.
🤱🏻Breastfeeding lowers stress and anxiety.
🤱🏼It sets up a baby’s immune system for life.
🤱🏾Breastfeeding fights infections.
🤱🏻The more you breastfeed in the early days, the faster your body makes milk.
✍🏻However, manufacturers of breastmilk substitutes are using sophisticated marketing tactics to market formula to mothers in a way that discourages them from breastfeeding.
✍🏻 *We must work together to end exploitative marketing!*
✅The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life, and continued breastfeeding for two years or beyond, if parents are able to do so.

*Breastfeeding some of the time is good, BUT breastfeeding all of the time is BEST*
💃As we wind up World Breastfeeding Week today,
✍🏻It's important to note that;
🫵 *Giving your baby formula or other liquids may make you:*
✅Have more problems breastfeeding
✅Produce less milk
✅Be less confident in breastfeeding
✅Breastfeed less often
✅Stop breastfeeding before your baby is at least 6 months old.
*Note✍🏻*: Baby formula may have all the nutrition needed by a baby, *BUT* research shows: ✍🏻Formula-fed babies may have a greater risk of: ✅respiratory infections, ✅allergies, ✅sudden infant death syndrome, ✅obesity& cognitive development issues and other health risks *compared* to breastfed babies.
*Therefore, Breastfeeding is the best gift a mother, rich or poor can give her child as well as herself*
