The Paradox of Joblessness and Job Applications
Many medics claim they don’t have jobs, yet when a simple job advert is posted, their overwhelming response raises many questions. The way people apply—often failing to follow basic instructions—makes one wonder about their seriousness and preparedness for employment.
Recently, we posted a straightforward advert in well-known WhatsApp groups, and as expected, the flood of applications nearly froze the inbox. Here’s the advert:
"Dr. Mukembo, please help me advertise this:
I need 1 theatre assistant.
Applicants should send their current APL (if possible, for 2025) through WhatsApp number 0771602199.
No direct calls through this number.
This advert expires on 07/02/2025."
Despite the clear instructions, 96% of applicants failed at the first step—just sending a WhatsApp message! As usual:
Some called directly, ignoring the no calls instruction.
Others sent handwritten applications.
Many flooded the inbox with all their documents (CVs, awards, O-Level, P7 certificates, etc.), often missing the required APL.
Some simply initiated chats full of unnecessary inquiries.
Even after the deadline, applications kept coming in, filling the inbox with outdated submissions.
A Lesson for Job Seekers
Being jobless is tough, but disorganization makes it worse. Even when opportunities arise, failing to follow basic instructions keeps many unemployed. If you’re serious about getting a job:
✔ Read and follow application instructions carefully.
✔ Maintain professionalism, regardless of the platform.
✔ Avoid unnecessary inquiries—clarity is key.
✔ Don’t display frustration; employers avoid stressed candidates.
✔ Trust that the right opportunity will come your way—just be prepared for it.
Opportunities exist, but only for those who approach them correctly.
