By attending in advance of the procedure, attendees know what to expect before and during their hospital stay and in recovery.

For Hendrick Health's 101st birthday, employees this week enjoyed delicious treats, a scavenger hunt, visits with therapy dogs and more!

It's not every day that a 100th birthday comes around, so employees at Hendrick Medical Center South recently went the extra step to help a patient celebrate the century mark.

Employees at HMC South presented Joe Marshall, pictured with his daughter, Julie Neill, his favorite cake (red velvet), purchased party decorations and sang him “Happy Birthday."

Joe is a World War II veteran who earned degrees at Abilene Christian University (ACU), Hardin-Simmons University and Baylor University and taught 51 years in ACU's Education/Psychology department.

Also joining Joe in the festivities were many members of his family, which includes three children, eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Happy Birthday!

Meet high school student Mason Coe, who was a junior volunteer at Hendrick Hospice Care's Camp Courage. The summer day camp offers fun activities that are therapeutic to help children who have lost a loved one learn to manage their grief.

To bookend a year of Centennial celebrations that began with a convocation at First Baptist Church in Abilene, the Mission and Ministry team on Monday conducted a rededication of the Rev. Millard Jenkens Chapel at Hendrick Medical Center.

Monday’s service also was a time to look forward, to dedicate the space as a place to kneel in prayer, where staff will pause to find strength for the day, and where families will continue to discover peace that passes understanding.

Chapels also are at Hendrick Medical Center South and Hendrick Medical Center Brownwood, and chaplains are available on call 24/7 for all three hospitals to serve patients, families and staff.
