This is an excellent review of the recent New York Time's article regarding continuous fetal monitoring. We need to be talking about this a little more. Don't wait until go-time to try and have these conversations with your providers. Make sure you do your research well ahead of time so you know what you want and why you want it and have a plan. I encourage every pregnant women to have a written birth plan that you have reviewed with your provider. Talk about contingencies and what your preferences are in the case something changes.

Everyone benefits from continuous labor and birth support!

A common myth is that doulas are for unmedicated births. However, doulas support ALL births! In fact, it is often the families that need or desire interventions who benefit the most from doula support.

Having the continuous support of someone supporting you through making informed decisions and navigating medicalized birth can help facilitate a birth experience focused on what the day is truly about - not medical procedures, a birth and welcoming your baby.

Hello, my name is Daniella and I am a certified birth doula, certified lactation counselor and a BSN-prepared nurse with over 16 years of hospital experience, serving families in the Columbus, MS area.

After moving to Mississippi and realizing how common c-sections were here and supporting multiple VBAC clients early on, I felt I needed to dive a little deeper and learn more.

If you are giving birth this year, you need to have a plan! We plan our baby announcements, maybe a gender reveal, our baby showers and even our baby nursery and then when it comes to our birth we often times just decide to leave it to chance…”go with the flow.” But why??? Lots of decisions will be made the day you give birth….shouldn’t you be making those important decisions? Get prepared, educated and empowered to make those decisions for yourself and for your baby. Tricare beneficiaries are entitled to up to 6 doula visits starting at 20 weeks gestation and in person birth support.
