NOVEMBER IS DIABETES AWARENESS MONTH;
IF YOU HAVE A DIABETES-RELATED WOUND, THE MEMORIAL HOSPITAL WOUND CENTER CAN HELP

For most, a blister or cut on the foot is a small inconvenience that a Band-Aid™ and time will heal, but that’s not the case for the 38.4 million Americans who have diabetes. Complications of diabetes, like neuropathy and peripheral vascular diseases, make feet vulnerable to ulcers that can lead to infection and even amputation. If you have a diabetes-related wound, the Memorial Hospital Wound Center can help! Call 785-571-1070 or visit www.CaringForYou.org for more information.

NOVEMBER IS LUNG CANCER AWARENESS MONTH

According to the American Cancer Society, an estimated 234,580 Americans (116,310 men and 118,270 women) will be diagnosed with lung cancer in 2024; and sadly, about 125,070 people are expected to die from the disease.

While smoking remains the leading cause, other risk factors include:
🚬 Exposure to secondhand smoke
🏠 Radon gas (the second leading cause)
⚙️ Asbestos and certain occupational hazards

The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) recommends annual lung cancer screenings for adults ages 50–80 who have:
• A 20 pack-year smoking history, and
• Currently smoke or quit within the past 15 years

If you fall into this category, talk to your healthcare provider about scheduling a lung cancer screening, because early detection saves lives. 💙
