🌞 Basal Cell Carcinoma Facts

✅ Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most common type of skin cancer.
✅ It often looks like a pearly bump, red patch, or sore that doesn’t heal.
✅ BCC is caused mainly by sun exposure or tanning bed use.
✅ It rarely spreads, but can cause damage if left untreated.
✅ The best protection: sunscreen, hats, and regular skin checks.

Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most common form of skin cancer and the most frequently occurring form of all cancers. In the U.S. alone, an estimated 3.6 million cases are diagnosed each year. BCCs arise from abnormal, uncontrolled growth of basal cells. BCCs can look like open sores, red patches, pink growths, shiny bumps, scars or growths with slightly elevated, rolled edges and/or a central indentation. On skin of color, BCCs may appear to be pigmented.
