National Morning Broadcast to Film Live in Downtown Abilene

ABILENE, Kan. – A national morning program will broadcast live from downtown Abilene on Friday, October 24, beginning at 6:00 a.m. CST. The segment will highlight why Abilene is recognized as one of America’s Best Small Towns to Visit, featuring local businesses, community organizations, and Made-in-Abilene products.
The on-air team, including a familiar former Abilene resident, plans to walk through downtown and visit with businesses and community members. Filming starts early to accommodate the live airtime on the East Coast.
Residents are encouraged to line the sidewalks, wear Abilene gear, bring signs, and help create a welcoming, energetic atmosphere for viewers across the country. While the exact stops are determined by the producers, the planned route begins at Little Ike Park, continues east along NW 3rd Street to Buckeye Avenue, and circles back to conclude at Amanda’s Bakery & Bistro.
Participants will include the Abilene High School Marching Band, Great Plains Manufacturing, Russell Stover Chocolates, National Greyhound Association, and a variety of other Abilene and downtown businesses. Businesses are encouraged to have their lights on, and Dickinson County Emergency Management will provide additional lighting to illuminate the area.
“This is an invaluable promotional opportunity for Abilene to showcase our community and businesses to a nationwide audience,” said Julie Roller Weeks, Director of the Abilene Convention & Visitors Bureau. “The incredible spirit of our businesses and residents—from opening early to showing up with enthusiasm—is exactly what makes Abilene special.”
The program will film rain or shine. Visitors are encouraged to bring umbrellas if needed, and a limited number will be available on-site. To capture the best footage of downtown buildings, parking will be restricted on the north side of NW 3rd Street and on both sides of North Buckeye Avenue between 3rd and 4th from 5–7 a.m. The Little Ike Park parking lot will also be closed to accommodate equipment from local manufacturers and businesses.
All are welcome to join the celebration and help Abilene shine on national television.

09/10/2025 UPDATE ‼️‼️

We are so excited to announce that the pharmacy is open at the temporary location located at 108 NW 3rd Street, just north of the old location! We encourage anyone who uses text messaging to sign up to receive notifications when your prescriptions are ready.

We are still working to get things restocked. This will take time, especially the over-the-counter items and any durable medical equipment. Please bear with us as we figure out our new normal. We don't have as much room here, so we might not have everything you need, but rest assured we can typically get it for you the next business day!

For those patients who had to transfer prescriptions out for immediate needs while we were closed, just know all it takes is one call for us to get you back in our system, no trouble at all!

We look forward to being back in Abilene and serving Abilene and surrounding areas. We have missed everyone!

Great news! We've got our temporary location and we are hoping to be open this coming week, right across the street at 108 NW 3rd Street! We are working on getting inventory back in stock, so the store is NOT YET open to the public, but customers are able to call in as they normally would on the same number, 785-263-2229, for assistance.

We have found a temporary location here in Abilene! We will be working hard to get the operations going at this location within a couple weeks. Stay tuned for location and opening date!

We miss our patients and look forward to being back to serve them and the Abilene community very soon!!

08/27/2025 UPDATE ‼️‼️

Not a lot of updates to post at this time. We hope to have a temporary spot in Abilene soon to resume somewhat normal operations. We want to remind everyone to PLEASE CALL AHEAD to let us know where to transfer your prescription(s) to be filled. We can primarily be reached at Patterson Healthmart Pharmacy in Clay Center at 785-632-3115.

We are now 72 hours post fire. As we think back to Sunday evening and these last 72 hours there are many thanks we want to give.

We want to thank the community who saw it and called it in. Without you, this could have been a MUCH larger disaster.

We want to thank the Abilene Fire Department and all first responders. This fire was put out very quickly thanks to their swift actions and expertise.

We want to thank the teams at our sister stores, Key Rexall Health Mart Pharmacy (Salina), Patterson Health Mart Pharmacy (Clay Center), Patterson Apothecary (Clay Center) and Patterson Health Mart Pharmacy Lincoln for being so supportive and assisting with our operations, as well as taking care of our patients and their medication needs.

We want to thank our fellow pharmacies in Abilene, Harvey Drug and Auburn Pharmacy for also assisting and making sure our patients are getting the medications and care they need.

We are thankful this fire happened at the time it did and not at 2am when it could have taken longer to be noticed. We are thankful it happened while the pharmacy was closed and no one was in the building at the time of the fire. So many things to be thankful for!

Thank you to all our patients for hanging in there with us through all of this! We look forward to being able to be back open in Abilene to serve this wonderful community soon!

08/25/2025 UPDATE ‼️‼️

As of this afternoon, we have gotten access to our software server. This means we can access ALL patient information. This has only been set up at Patterson Healthmart Pharmacy, our Clay Center location for the time being. Please call there, 785-632-3115, for refill requests or any concerns. We will be doing our best to get things refilled for our patients or transferring to where you want to pick up. If you had any prescriptions ready to be picked up at the time of the fire, they are destroyed and no longer processed through insurance. We do apologize greatly for the inconveniences this has caused, but rest assured we are here to help as much as we can given the circumstances.

UPDATE‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️

At this time we have no way to access patient info that is backed up on our software server. This means we cannot perform any transfers as well. This is a top priority for us this morning as we work through this. If there are prescriptions you are out of and need filled, I encourage you to call your doctor and have a prescription sent to another pharmacy. Our other locations are Patterson Healthmart Pharmacy (Clay Center), Key Rexall Health Mart Pharmacy (Salina), Patterson Health Mart Pharmacy Lincoln (Lincoln). There is also Auburn Pharmacy and Harvey Drug here in Abilene. We are incredibly sorry for any inconveniences that have risen.

The pharmacy unfortunately suffered a fire tonight. We are grateful for those that called in the emergency, and for the swift response of the Abilene Fire Department and all first responders, as the damage could have been much worse. Due to the incident occurring during closed hours, no one was harmed.

There is significant damage due to the fire/smoke, and we are working with officials to determine the next steps to be taken.

We appreciate the patience and understanding of our customers at this time. Our operations will be suspended until further notice, but we will provide updates here on social media and on our phone system as soon as possible.
