In 1924, West Texas Baptist Sanitarium opened to care for the people of West Central Texas. As we approach out 101st anniversary in September, Hendrick Health continues to build on that mission and legacy that is defined by much more than part of the original building visible at the north Abilene hospital campus.

In his book “Hendrick Health: A Century of Healing Ministry,” local historian Jay Moore profiled 100 individuals from across Hendrick's history. He wrote in his introduction:

"What has remained constant for 100 years is the care that takes place daily at Hendrick Health. Tucked in the midst of the complex of buildings remains that original building erected on donated land, a healing nucleus surrounded by decades of expansion. If you know where to look, you can still spot the original exterior of that first building. However, to see the true heartbeat of the hospital, you only need to look into the faces of those providing care within its walls. Some – and only some – of those faces are profiled within these pages."

Philanthropy Friday - The Hendrick Hospice Care team goes above and beyond to care for patients and their families. And, Hendrick Hospice Care would not exist without community support. From our annual "Light Up a Life" campaign each winter to families offering memorial gifts to honor a loved one, these donations are paid forward to help future families as their need for hospice care arises. Even before Abilene became the "Storybook Capital of America," Hendrick Health developed an amazing relationship with the Berenstain family and their beloved bears.

The Berenstains graciously allowed their joyful, colorful art to decorate Hendrick Children's Hospital and the pediatric unit at Hendrick Medical Center Brownwood. They also allowed us to enlist Brother Bear and Sister Bear as our community pediatric healthcare ambassadors.

We are proud that Hendrick Children's Hospital is a comprehensive service line comprised of loving providers and programs designed to bless every expectant mother, new baby, toddler and big kid in the Big Country, Brown County and beyond!

Philanthropy Friday - Today, Christmas is exactly 5 months away! 🎄 It's a great time to gather with family and to remember the Lord's gift of sending His son, Jesus, to the world!

Each Christmas season, Hendrick Hospice Care's annual "Light up a Life" fundraising campaign is an opportunity for the community to bless a family needing end-of-life services. Through both inpatient and at-home services, the Hendrick Hospice Care team serves not only patients but their families.

The mission of The Hope Fund by Hendrick Health is to provide hope and financial assistance to overcome breast cancer through early detection and support.

The Hope Fund assists with:

✔️Screening mammograms
✔️ Diagnostic mammograms
✔️ Breast ultrasounds
✔️ Lymphedema supplies for breast cancer patients/survivors
✔️Lodging at Hendrick League House during breast cancer treatments

We are so grateful at Hendrick Children’s Hospital for all our Walmart partners for investing in local healthcare for local kids. A special thanks to Walmart in Stamford for their incredible work and generosity! 👏

We want to thank everyone who participated in and donated to our fundraisers for Children's Miracle Network. With your help, we raised $14,827, exceeding our goal of $10,000. This will go to Hendrick Children's Hospital in Abilene and help the children of The Big Country. Thank you for supporting Children's Miracle Network.

Chaplains have graced our hallways since Hendrick Health's founding by Rev. Millard Jenkens in 1924. Following in his footsteps, Elsie Woodrum helped formalize chaplain services as a "religious visitor" in 1949.
