5%!

As fun as New Year's Eve can be, December 31 truly should be known as "Most Generous Day of the Year!" That's because 5% of total annual charitable giving happens today.

If you or your family have waited until the final hours of 2025 to make your charitable donations, we hope you will consider the amazing ministries that happen every day at Hendrick Health. From Hendrick Children's Hospital to Hendrick Hospice Care, from the Hope Fund by Hendrick Health to Hendrick Medical Center Brownwood, we would love to show you how your gifts and partnership can make a difference in our community in West Central Texas.

In the United States, 30% of charitable giving happens in December. As you wrap up 2025, consider these tips for balancing generosity and financial stewardship:

βœ… Gift appreciated assets (e.g. stocks, bonds) held for more than a year to avoid capital gains.

βœ… Individuals older than 70.5 years can give up to $108,000 from their IRA tax-free.

βœ… By bunching charitable gifts one year and skipping the next year, you can itemize deductions for the giving year and take the IRS standard deduction on the skipped year.

βœ… Consider thoughtful estate planning to transition assets to family during life to lower the estate value and potentially assist in taxes or probate costs at death.

βœ… Assess creating a charitable remainder trust for income and tax benefits.

βœ… Strategize with a donor-advised fund, which is a charitable investment account that allows the giver to make contributions, receive tax benefits and recommend charitable grants over time.

Oh no! It's almost Christmas Eve, and left on your gift list is someone impossible to shop for because they already have everything!

Here's a suggestion: Make a gift in their name to a local charity they care about. You not only honor your loved on, but you also bless a local family in need. Great organizations like United Way of Abilene and Community Foundation of Abilene can connect you with local nonprofits.

Hendrick Health is one of those local charities with several ministries:
πŸ’™ Hendrick Children's Hospital that blesses local kids
πŸ’™ The Hope Fund by Hendrick Health that pays for mammograms for women who cannot afford them
πŸ’™ Hendrick Hospice Care that daily provides compassionate care to families
πŸ’™ Hendrick League House that provides lodging for regional patients unable to travel back-and-forth for treatment

It's not too late for Christmas!

Our team raises money to support the ministry of Hendrick Children's Hospital every single day. Donations are used to support the work of our local OB/GYNS, pediatricians and neonatologists by investing in lifesaving equipment and life-changing programs. We are committed to finding local dollars to bless local kids (and their families).

Our efforts depend on partners, which is why we are so proud to be connected with Heroes 4 a Cause. Their annual car show has grown every year in participants and dollars raised. Thank you to these local heroes for supporting our tiniest and mightiest patients!

And if you, your company or your community group would be interested in partnering with Hendrick Medical Center Foundation to support one of our vital, community-focused healthcare ministries, please contact us.

Today, Brad Benham, vice president for Foundation, spent several hours writing and signing letters to encourage people to consider making a year-end gift to the "Light Up a Life" campaign for Hendrick Hospice Care.

Every donated dollar goes directly to assist Big Country patients who would otherwise be unable to afford important, individualized end-of-life care.

As 2025 comes to a close, we hope you visit hendrickhealth.org/lights to "Light Up a Life" with hope and compassion this Christmas season.

On this Wildlife Conservation Day, we want to give a special "SHOUT OUT" to our Abilene Zoo friends. For years, the Abilene Zoo has partnered with Hendrick Health to support our various ministries – from visiting Hendrick Children's Hospital to being a featured guest at Camp Courage (a Hendrick Hospice Care day camp to bless children dealing with a recent loss).

Thank you to the Abilene Zoo for helping to save animals throughout the world and for investing in kids and education right here in the Big Country!

Jay Moore, like the history he shares, is an Abilene treasure. His partnership in shepherding the preservation and celebration of our Centennial history last year through his community presentations and beautiful book, β€œHendrick Health: A Century of Healing Ministry,” helped to celebrate 100 years of local people caring and loving their neighbors. Thank you, Jay!

He didn’t start writing until his 40s, and still isn’t sure he’s any good at it. But Abilenians know better. Jay Moore has become one of Abilene’s most beloved authors and speakers, packing the Paramount Theatre year after year with his entertaining, educational presentations on local history. On this , please consider making a donation to Hendrick Hospice Care through our annual Light Up a Life campaign. Every donated dollar goes directly to patient care to bless a local family in need of compassionate, comprehensive hospice services. But it is not just about caring for the patient, it is also about ministering to the family with love and support.

As an added bonus, when you give to "Light Up a Life" at certain levels, you have the opportunity to engrave a brick or paver at Hendrick Hospice Care Center's Legacy Park in honor or in memory of a loved one. These engraved stones are a great way to both look back in honor and look forward in hope to bless another local family.
