As most of you know, when working in or around EMS, it is sometimes hard to get everyone together at one time.

Last week we were honored to recognize two of our own who recieved new wings.

Pilot, Shad Phillips, was presented his 1,000th Patient Flight wings. Presenting his wings was our Program Director, Marta Pagura.

Flight Paramedic, Marc Flores, was presented his 500th Patient Flight wings. Presenting his wings was his partner and Flight Nurse, Todd Stephens.

We are proud to acknowledge the many families these gentlemen have helped so far as Members of the Air Evac Lifeteam 63 family. We look forward to many more years of service from them.

This week we had the honor of welcoming Jenessa Hambright to Air Evac Lifeteam 63. She literally hit the floor running. The tones went off 1 hour into her first shift with us, and it hasn't slowed down since.

Welcome to the 63 and the Big Country of Texas, Janessa. We are happy to have you on the team!!

She is transferring from Air Evac Lifeteam 181, to Air Evac Lifeteam 63, after being a member of the AE family since February of 2024. After her decision to move closer to family in San Angelo, TX, she made the decision to Join us at Air Evac Lifeteam 63.

She grew up in a small SETX town, but completed high school in the DFW metroplex. Her aspirations of becoming a nurse started in high school which lead her to attended Texas Tech University and while working as a CNA, she earned her Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing. She started my nursing profession, as an ICU nurse, in San Antonio, TX in 2019 and worked in various ICU specialties until joining the flight team at AE181 when the base opened.

She met her husband while in college at TTU and were married in 2021. In just a short while, they will be welcoming a baby girl, who will be their first baby!

At Air Evac Lifeteam 63, we admire and recognize every person on our team as true professionals in their field of expertise. We take only the best and are proud of the steadfast commitment to excellence each team member brings to the table. Every time our skids leave the ground we are headed out to help the next family.

Today we want to recognize two of our team members who were recently announced as recipients of Global Medical Response’s 2024 Stars of Life. They will be among the 32 individuals selected to represent Global Medal Response (GMR) at the annual American Ambulance Associations Stars of Life program this November in Washington, DC.

Please join us in congratulating them the next time you see them.

Missy Satterfield joined Air Evac Lifeteam in 2020. She is a 2009 Graduate of Merkel High School as well as a 2013 graduate of the Texas Tech Nursing program. She had solely worked at Hendrick Health in the Emergency Department prior to taking flight with Air Evac. She held the position as a Charge Nurse in the ED as well as earning her certification as a Certified Emergency Nurse prior to joining Air Evac. Since joining Air Evac she has completed her Certification Flight Registered Nurse (CFRN) and Flight Paramedic Course. She has helped over 440 families during this time, and will be recognized for her excellent patient care. In November she will add recipient of the prestigious Stars of Life medal.

Marc Flores is a 2013 graduate of Anson High School and immediately afterwards attended Texas State Technical College to attain his certificate as a Emergency Medical Technician. In 2018, while working at Haskell County EMS, he completed his Paramedic Certification. As soon as he met the requirements to be a Flight Paramedic, Marc started to work at Air Evac Lifeteam 63 in 2021. Since coming here, he has completed the rigorous requirements to earn his Flight Paramedic Course certification. He has helped over 500 families during this time. In November he will add recipient of the prestigious Stars of Life medal.

If you were around Abilene yesterday, you probably noticed multiple helicopters coming in and out of Hendrick Medical Center. They were not all coming from the same area, but Hendrick Medical Center, happened to have a few transfer patients coming in as well as some scene flights.

First on the Helipad was Air Evac Lifeteam 54 - Big Spring, TX. As they prepared to depart, we got toned, so they had to leave. As we were getting ready depart, Air Evac Lifeteam 52 - Brownwood, TX, was inbound and had to circle overhead so we could depart.

Anytime there are multiple aircraft in an area, it requires the pilots to announce and coordinate their actions for safety.

In our area, the coverage area for each base overlaps to provide a timely alternative if the assigned base aircraft is already dedicated to helping another family.

Immediately following this morning's shift change, the day crew loaded up and headed to Abilene State Park to conduct Helicopter Safety and Landing Zone Training.

We appreciate everyone with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Division who took time out of their busy schedule to attend the training in the classroom as well as hands on training around the helicopter.

There were lots of great questions and we enjoyed being able to share our passion with everyone this morning.

If it's been a while since your last Landing Zone Training, give us a call to get on the schedule.

Today is the first day on hitch for the crew.
Started out with a visit from our Senior Program Director, Debra Blackshear Scott, who conducted a pre-CAMTS inspection.

Following the inspection and a brief lunch, it was time for to help our first family of the day with a hospital transfer. We made it back to base just in time for the Medcrews afternoon nap, or at least they thought.

We had a no notice visitor, Pete Wolf, our Regional Director of Operations. During our short conversation with him, we were informed for the reason of his visit. He was here to present Marc Flores with the Flight Paramedic - Employee of the Month for Air Evac Lifeteam Region 5, for April 2025. Simultaneously, the call came to help the next family in need.

Thank you, Pete and Debra for the visit today as well as your leadership.

Marc has been flying for Air Evac Lifeteam 63 - Abilene, TX for almost 5 years now. He came to us with experience from serving with Haskell County EMS, Fisher County EMS, and last but not least, Stamford Texas EMS.

Marc's knowledge, experience, and professionalism is recognized by his peers and patients alike. He is a go getter and always looking to improve his skills by continuing to serve with the ground ambulance services, as well as in the air from Air Evac Lifeteam.

Marc, we are proud to have you on the team at Air Evac Lifeteam 63. Keep up the hard work and dedication!!!!
