📚 Shaping Future Healthcare Providers 🩺
At Presbyterian Medical Care Mission, we’re proud to support students and professionals throughout the year — from aspiring Medical Assistants and nursing students to advanced practice providers — as they grow in their calling to serve others through healthcare.
Recently, we had the pleasure of welcoming Emily Osborne, RN, to our clinic as part of her nurse advancement program. Emily volunteered her time and shared this powerful reflection on her experience:
🗣
“I had the incredible opportunity to volunteer at the Presbyterian Medical Care Mission in Abilene, Texas. The welcoming staff gave me a tour and shared how they provide essential care to uninsured adults in our community. Services include in-person doctor visits, lab work, medication assistance, chronic disease management, and preventive screenings like breast cancer screenings and colon cancer tests, all at incredibly low costs. They even offer a hygiene closet with personal care and cleaning supplies for just a few dollars per visit.
As a full-time Emergency Room nurse, I often see patients return because they can’t afford medications or follow-up care. These are issues that could’ve been prevented with accessible resources. It’s frustrating to stabilize someone in crisis and know they may fall through the cracks again. Volunteering at PMCM reminded me how vital charitable clinics are. They bridge that gap with kindness, respect, and a commitment to affordable, ongoing care. It was inspiring to see firsthand how community-based solutions like this can change lives.”

We’re grateful for students like Emily who bring their passion and insight to our mission. It’s an honor to be part of shaping the next generation of compassionate, community-minded healthcare providers. 💙
