Keep Your Family Safe Around Backyard Chickens & Ducks!

Even healthy-looking backyard poultry can carry germs like Salmonella that can make you and your kids sick.

Here are simple steps to protect your family:

- Wash hands with soap and water right after touching birds, eggs, or anything in their area
- Never kiss or snuggle your flock, and don’t eat or drink around them
- Keep birds and supplies outside the house
- Supervise kids around the flock and make sure they wash hands afterward
- Handle eggs safely: collect often, don’t wash them, refrigerate, and cook thoroughly

Backyard flocks are fun, but safety comes first!

Keeping Abilene safe starts in our own yards.

Brush, leaves, and debris may seem harmless, but they can hold moisture and create ideal spaces for mosquitoes to live and multiply. Dispose of yard waste properly at the Abilene Brush Center and help reduce mosquito risks in our community.

🦟 Small actions make a big impact.

🌙💤 Better Sleep = Better Health! 💓
Good sleep is just as important for your heart as eating healthy and staying active. Adults need 7–9 hours of quality sleep each night — but many of us fall short.

Here are some simple ways to improve your sleep:
🕒 Stick to a regular sleep schedule (even on weekends)
📱 Power down screens at least 30 minutes before bed
☕ Avoid caffeine, ni****ne, and heavy meals close to bedtime
🛏️ Keep your room cool, dark, and quiet
🧘‍♀️ Try relaxing before bed — deep breathing or gentle stretching

Your body (and heart) will thank you with more energy, focus, and balance! 💪
