Instrumentation identifies the vertebral subluxation complex with accuracy. The result of the vertebral subluxation is the altered nerve. Thus, this is the main insult of the subluxation. To identify it you must find it through the nervous system. At Specht Brothers Chiropractic, we use an Electrical Conductance Scanner that measure the galvanic skin response (water density) supraspinally and paraspinally to detect increased sympathetic nerve activity at separate vertebral levels through the output of sweat glands, oil glands, and blood vessel dilation/constriction. These glands and vessels are segmentally innervated and share a connection with the vertebral joint and tissues via interneurons of the intermediolateral horn of the spinal cord. The ECS is the most efficient and specific method of segmental examination of vertebral subluxation-induced nerve dysfunction. It is far more specific than nerve conduction velocity tests (very painful) or surface EMG, and far more sensitive than thermal scans. We are the only doctors in Abilene who utilize this technology.

Here at Specht Brothers Chiropractic, we specialize in the Gonstead Method. The Gonstead Method is an evidence-based approach to chiropractic care that aims to find the root cause of pain and discomfort through detailed analysis of the spine, and therefore, precise adjustments to each patient's specific problem areas. With several different modalities, we're able to find and adjust the exact point in the spine that's causing problems. No guesswork, no one-size-fits-all manipulations.— in Abilene.

While many other techniques can and do help people, the Gonstead technique provides more reliable and repeatable results in fewer visits. The Gonstead technique is based on specificity. Using this technique, we can accurately identify the exact location of the vertebral subluxation, and deliver a specific adjustment tailored to the needs of that specific joint. In other words, we do not simply “pop” your spine this way and that way and hope that it works. We intend to fix you on purpose. To learn more about our methods, contact us today.

X-rays define the parameters of the subluxation. While X-rays usually don’t show where the problem is, they do show the relative relationships of adjoining bones and their alignment in detail. We use this information to select the appropriate chiropractic maneuver to properly reduce the subluxation, once found. Specific directional subluxations require specific directional forces given during the adjustment to reduce them. Everyone’s spine is shaped differently and has its own unique characteristics and circumstances. There is no normal spine, especially in patients exhibiting spinal dysfunction symptoms. That’s why each treatment plan is personalized for each patient.
